Middle Tennessee State? BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Listen here, if you think MTSU could defeat UNC, you haven't watched them play. The SCU loss was a total fluke. UNC 2005 National Champs!

Extremely talented team that was well coached. They won a National Title so there's not much to criticize them over EXCEPT the Villanova game in the Sweet Sixteen, where the Tar Heels nearly blew a 10 point lead with three minutes left then got a gift traveling call on a Villanova player. Did he travel? Maybe. Do you make that call that late in a big game like that? No. You let the kids play and dont let the whistle on a questionable call determine the game.

Wow, this is hard to rate! Why don't we just, who was the best football team in the Superbowl? Gee, let's see, I guess Illinois was the #2 tourney team. Mich State #3. And Louisville #4? That's just an opinion though. There is really nothing for us to go by for rating this! Why don't we just rate who's the best center on the Miami Heat?

[Update] See, I told you so. However, their annointment will be tainted by the fact that the refs stoned Villanova with a nefarious call that matches the phantom call in the Miami-Ohio State football game of 2003. [Original Post] They are a Final-4 Lock. They are also a prohibitive favorite to win the Tournament. So talented and so explosive. If they fail, it's time to question the ability of Roy Williams to win the big ONE.

From Mr. Jaguar's standpoint, yes as they have Florida as a tough test. I will tell you this, a way that they will lose is if they commit turnovers and meet a tall player. Take the conference game against Georgia Tech. If they contol themselves, they will reach the final 4, but they can be eaten freshly by the Gators or if I should pick another, Wisconsin. They will be deep if Roy Williams coaches them strictly. >(Yawns) Just their typical basketball. They would have slept in the middle of the 2nd half. >> Another sleeper. That's all I've got to say. >>> Now that thay have that test, they may be the one that can be en route to the Nat'l champinship. Of course that controversial travel on 'Nova helped them, but they may have a weakness if they do not shoot their 3's against Wisconsin. >>>> They have been a force all right as they make their shots in and out of the paint. they had another test and they survived it without controversy. They may have an easier time on their next match if they have the matchup they're looking for. >>>>> After a somewhat lack luster perfomance in the first half, they had shown that this national championship will not be a runaway for another competitior. What can still bother some is that conroversial close win over Villanova, but they are a great team that totally deserves to be in this final game of the season. Certainly, they have made a lot of wrongs when they made plays, but what counts is their depth and their amazing ablity to score frontcourt. Sean May, the two Willams players and Ray Felton are the catalysts to this team and may be the one that will finally give their university their first since the 1990's. Now I did make a vow here that if either of these two win I will sing their fight song and if they have one, their wictory song too along with the anthem, One Shining Moment. >>>>>>Oh yes! I really did sing I'm A Tar Heel Born and their victory song! The fighting Illini were pesky near the end but hung on and Roy Williams finally won one for himself. For the North Carolina Faithful, it has been a long time since 1993. All the players who were listed in my last update had made this a game and barely won. They had the perfect squad on the court and I can guarantee this, Sean May can stand up to Shaq O'Neal anytime as he is so good sinking shots and gathering rebounds. It is good that the major players staved off elimination by fouls in that game, otherwise it would have been Illinois. In fact, they would have been Big Ten Champions since they defeated the top three in their conference. This is the university's 33rd nat'l championship overall (includes a dispute in women's soccer) and including the unrecognized championship in 1924, their fifth basketball nat'l championship, which passes Duke by 2 (Uh Oh! And look out Indiana! [They have 5 also.]) Enjoy this Chapel Hill, you earned it- this was your shining moment!! I strongly agree with Magellan.I am a big UNC fan and they have not played well as of late.Time to step up and live up to the hype gentlemen.Update:I am tired of hearing about the travel call against Nova. The guy clearly walked, not to mention UNC led by 4 at that point. How was it such a game changing call?Nova was extremely hot in the first half and was lucky to even be in the game late, as UNC had a 10 point advantage with 2:00 left.Final Update:Do not watch the play in slow motion, at full speed he clearly shuffled his pivit foot.As BOTH announcers said it was the correct call!Regardless, you can't say that cost Nova the game, who's to say if it would have been a tie they would have won?Its like Tom Brady said after the Charles Woodson call and Dorsey said after the Ohio State call against the Canes,One call shouldn't decide the game, good teams overcome and we had our chances.

To make a final four run, you have to be good AND lucky. It appears that Carolina has both going on. The luck of course came when Villanova guard Allen Ray drove to the basket, was fouled by UNC defender Melvin Scott, and dropped in a floater. The whistle blew. Scott motioned frantically toward the ground, to show the official that he had fouled Ray on the ground and not in the act of shooting (which would have allowed Ray, an 83% free throw shooter, to shoot a free throw to tie the game). Says Scott about the play, I fouled him. The ref sort of stutter stepped in the universal referee language of i'm making this up as a I go along, and made The Call - making himself the star of the game, and taking the emphasis off the players. The Nova players and coaches took the high road, as did the Carolina players. The New York Post wasn't so kind, calling it the worst call they had ever seen. I won't even go into what my home town Philly papers are saying. But regardless, Carolina is a hell of a team and is my pick to whole thing. Good and lucky is the only way to survive March Madness.

I think this is Roy williams' year, if he can just figure out a way to get past the winner of the Alabama A&M/Oakland game. That'll be a test. A UNC/UConn game would be one of the best match-ups of the past five years. UPDATE: I didn't get my UNC/UConn matchup, but UNC/Nova was great. Williams had coached his vastly superior team to a huge, surprising loss, except for his enormous good fortune of a creative ref in the final seconds. Very, very lucky to advance. 2ND UPDATE: The lead prior to the travel call was 3. Clearly Ray made the basket and was fouled by Melvin Scott, who said he was hoping (when he heard the whistle blow) that he would be called for the foul BEFORE the shot. McCants was then fouled and made 1 of 2 free throws for the final margin of 4. Is it really so much to ask that the players decide the game? In a game where nearly every travelling call is a laughing matter, not to mention how many are not called, why blow the whistle, unless it is so clear that you would be roundly criticized for not calling something? Pointing out that UNC was up 10 with 2 minutes to go, wouldn't that indicate their incredible luck at receiving this gift of a call? I was at the game, I paid a lot of money to see who was the better team, not who Tom O'Neill wanted to win. This isn't the only example of poor officiating, just the most egregiously wrong call in the final seconds of a big game. O'Neill is a veteran who should have done a better job. The NCAA and all basketball fans, including UNC fans, should expect better. How about a no gift policy?

This team could go down as a great one, but even if they win this year they won't if they play to their potential next year!

The way they've been getting worked on the inside, and the sad D they've been playing, I get the feeling the Heels are going to get knocked out in either the Sweet 16 or Elite 8.

i agree with irishgit, on paper these guys are a lock. As a duke fan i'm not ashamed to say they have one of the most talented teams i've seen in a long time. But it's tournament time where anything can happen and i could definitly see some close games that may end their road to the championship.

They are defintley one of the teams to beat. They will win the Syracuse Regional but I feel that Tobacco Road ends at the Final Four.

They have the best inside-outside mixture in the nation, and if McCants regains his form after illness, then they should be a Final 4 favorite.
