I had a hernia exam a couple days ago, and I agree such courtesy can quickly become a moot point. Even more pointless was the flimsy paper gown my doctor gave me, which broke off one of my shoulders and was impossible to close in the back. I would have had more dignity without the protocol involving a ridiculous paper dress.

Usually, in my experience, the nurse puts you in the room and you undress and put on that pathetic paper gown thingy before you even see the doctor.

I find this wierd too actually-not that I've ever bee the the OB before. Maybe it's because they only see one area, and staring and watching your whole body is unprofessional and not very polite.
