Good team, but not good enough to defeat the Tar Heels. They may bow out if they underestimate New Mexico, but really a tough road if they have to face Florida. >Yep, it's going to be tough, but really, Florida is beatable. What happened to the Gators against Ohio? >> They definitely shown that the Eastern Wilcats are hare again, but with UNC in their way, they will go as they lost one of their important players. >>> Tough call, and really, they would have won, but hey, there are always controversial palys in basketball.

Victims of a brutal call. Disgraceful job of officiating.

mag has the right read here. They'll be happy to beat N. Mex., Florida will give them a great game, probably losing narrowly. But, they still have to get by N. Carolina, before playing UConn. I don't see that happening. UPDATE: Again, mag has it right. I took my daughter to this game, buying tickets from a scalper outside. Never has $150.00 been so satisfying, until the last 8 seconds. For this ref to dream up this travel is a travesty, and indicates a dangerous arrogance on his part, he should not officiate at this level. The guy drove, made the shot, was fouled to put Nova ahead, and did not travel, according to ESPN's replay this morning. My daughter wanted to leave with 'Nova down 10 with about 4 minutes to go and everything going UNC's way. I said let's stay, this ending may just be memorable. UNC is a much more talented team than Nova but Williams had been completely out-coached, even to the last play, except for one referee bailing their losing asses out. I didn't go to this game to see who one ref wanted to win the game. Otherwise, one of the best played and most entertaining games I've watched in a long time. The Dome is still Basketball mecca.

*** a more bogus call i have not seen.... shameful.***** OK, here are a couple of reason why 'Nova will shock UNC tonight; 1) They are explosive. They beat West Virginia by 38. They held leads of up to 32 points on way to a rout of Kansas. They beat NCAA tournament team Bucknell by 40. When this team shoots the ball well, they have laid the hammer on some very good teams this year; 2) Their defense keeps them in every game. Only once this season have they lost by more than 6 points. Every other loss has been a nail biter. They are among the nation's leaders in turnovers forced and fg% allowed. See their throttling of Florida and UNM while shooting the ball terribly. 3) Jason Fraser. This back up center was in the headlines after single handedly destroying Florida. He's no ordinary back-up center - he's a McDonalds all American who's had three surgeries in the past year. He was expected to be a one and done NBA lottery pick, but injuries have slowed him down. He's healthy today. ** So what does this all mean? I'm not sure... the loss of Sumpter is big. But a line of 10 points on this game seems very, very high considering Nova's history of being in every game. I put $100 on Nova for this reason.

[Update] Magellan came pretty close in picking the sleeper. Had Sumpter not been hurt, they would have won. In the end, another dagger in the heart of Philly Fan, who may never, ever again know the feeling of winning a championship. Reminds me of my friend's dad who would answer the phone after yet another Phillies / Eagles / Flyers / Sixers / Big 5 setback City of Losers, can I help you. [Original post] I love when ESPN doofuses keep sellin' this Kool Aid about Number 5 seeds ALWAYS falling to #12 seeds. They insisted that New Mexico was going to kill Villanova. So, of course, 3 of 4 #5 Seeds win and Villanova held the Bobos (er Lobos) to 11 first-half points. As for 'Nova, they did it 20 years ago and maybe they can carry the Big East Mantle to the Final 4.

That was dissapointing. I almost cried.

Looks like they will make a move or two but I can't really give them a chance to win it all.
Mad Hatter 03/14/2005
They will get as far as the Sweet 16, but I don't see them beating the Tar Heels.
zuchinibut 03/14/2005
Played a tough schedule coming out of the Big East, and finished strong on the year, but I still don't see them doing too much in the Big Dance.
