They don't get any better than this. Sahm was fabulous. But don't forget Augie Meyer whose Vox Continental riffs often defined the Sir Doug sound!!! She's About a Mover is a stone garage classic. I just bought the Sir Douglas Quintet Live in Austin TX CD and am grooving to it at the moment. I had never before heard them do the 13th Floor Elevators' classic You're Going to Miss Me. Of course the Quintet should already be in the Hall of Fame. It's the Hall's loss, not ours. We've got the music!!!

Doug Sahm was texas rock and roll. From the 60's Sir Douglas Quintet to The 90's Texas Tornadoes, Sahm could rock with the best of them and usually had some the best on stage with him. When Doug Sahm died, a little bit of Texas died, also. If you want to hear country or rock and roll or Tex-mex or Texas music the way it's supposed to be played, pick up some Doug Sahm music and really live.

Doug Sahm is an American music icon, pure Americana, with his Tex-Mex sound. The Sir Douglas Quintet produced some of the most memorable sounds of the 60s and early 70s. Doug was a true original and his music is unique; The Sir Douglas Quintet and Doug Sahm are long overdue for induction to the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame.

Doug Sahm is the quintessential musician! He should have already been inducted into the hall of fame. He could play any string instrument and put a band together with short notice that would have all local musicians stopping by to hear the sounds and groove by on the wait for their gigs. I have seen close to 18 musicians on the stage when he would get all of the San Antonio West Side Horns (like 6 horn players) and the SIr douglas Quintet old and new players, and locals all together like an orchestra for endless danceable fun-loving music. He could change from rock to blues back to rock and everyone would be groovin - the band and the spectators. He covered the full range - my Mom loves country and he and Alvin would do alittle country he could please all - none of that $%*&*lyrics like some of the rock my kids can wait till they are older to hear - All my sisters and brothers love rock n Doug sure could roll out the best. Doug would get everyone in on the show - he would let us dance on the stage at the north soap creek - just like we could do at the bigger convention center concerts if we were lucky enough to score backstage passes to get on stage. He was the ultimate showman, always planning ahead for what was to come. Doug's songs were original and he did not have to take familiar riffs or lyrics to make him the star that he is, unlike most of today's so-called stars in music. He wrote the greatest(as per todays Texans) Texas song ever "She's About A Mover," also "Mendocino," "Dallas ALice,""Who Were You Thinking Of," "Who'll Be the Next In Line," "It Was Fun While It Lasted,""Is Anyone Goin To San Antone," "T-Bone Shuffle." Just to name some favorites - in case some one wants to make a set list for the 2006 Show, where I believe these guys belong, as much as the musicians that were lucky enough to play woodstock - the real one not the later-comer-uppers. Some of who may have no idea who Doug Sahm is - but for the real lovers of Rock N Roll we all already know in our hearts, minds and groove machines that this where Doug belongs. From the 1965 # 1 hit in the US to the 1990's Grammy nominated and Grammy Award winning Texas Tornadoes, Doug Sahm was the Greatest Texas Bandleader in written history here in Texas. This may be the first year a tribute will not be held in Austin - Shawn Sahm is playing with Los Lonely Boys on Doug's Birthday In San Antonio and I fell certain they may end up doing a tribute. It just is not the same as Austin where many more musicians knew and loved Doug too. Just as the Grateful Dead and Jefferson Airplane did not get inducted until the 1990's, it is time for Doug's main band, The Sir Douglas Quintet VOTE FOR THE SIR DOUGLAS QUINTET
