Wow. Their runs in '69 and '86 were courtesy to two franchises guilty of choking when the timing was the most inoppurtune.

In 1962, the Mets had a big, slow 1st baseman named Marv Throneberry, you might remember him from the Miller Lite commercials in the 1970's. Early in the year, a foul pop went up near the stands and got pushed around by a swirling wind. He got turned completely around trying to track the flight of the ball (someone called it a home run in an elevator) until it came down directly on his head. He was taken to the hospital and checked out, he was fine. Casey Stengel, from then on, called him Dr. Strangeglove.
