"Man is the only creature that consumes without producing. He does not give milk, he does not lay eggs, he is too weak to pull the plough, he cannot run fast enough to catch rabbits. Yet he is lord of all the animals."

Orwell was a man, that's clear enough to see. As a mother and wife who cooks, cleans, nurtures, mends, negotiates and can pull a meal out of nothing and fix an owie in the same breath, I don't see myself as a consumer. Now our cat..well, that animal really is a wothless bum.

Uhh, well, I beg to differ; while males cannot produce milk - females can. We may not be able to run fast enough to catch a rabbit, but we can catch and kill chickens and procure their eggs. In addition; it didn't take the comparatively short winded human race long to come up with the ability to drop our food (along with other people) dead in their tracks - which, obviously, has turned out to be both a blessing and a curse. And, though a man can push a plough, the smart ones prefer to ride tractors. George really needed to rethink that one.

But he is just smart enough to make it all work for him.
