Probably the best pure guitar rock band one shall see. Lloyd and Verlaine created contrasting guitar sounds that have seldom been bettered. Though classed as a punk band, they were really more psychedelic and "Marquee Moon", their classic album, possesses a distinctly soft touch at odds with a lot of what came out in the late 1970s, notably the piano touch on closer "Torn Curtain".

Only pedants blinded by such stupid things as a band's reach of influence and fame for its own sake will resist understanding this band. Television will probably never make it into the Rock and Roll HOF, but who cares? The exquisiteness of their guitar lines can be compared with the best of Coltrane, leaving all other rock bands far behind. No album has ever been made to rival the immortal "Marquee Moon" and probably never will. (Only Verlaine's "Dreamtime" comes close). I don't care what bands they may have, or may not have, influenced, what passing fads they may have ignited. They need to be appreciated on their own terms. They are sui generis.

one of the few punk bands to actually PLAY music, Televsion had only two albums and weren't known well outside of their own scene at the time, and didn't really come into any kind of public consciousness until a lot of 1990s indie bands like Pavement staked a musical claim. influential but not a HOFer band.
