Chic presents a pretty good argument for a separate hall of fame for disco. Many rock afficianados don't believe they belong in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and they've got a point. The reviewer who says disco was a part of rock and that white people don't get it is full of crap and in my opinion somewhat of a racist as well. Disco was part of POP music, not rock music. Just because a few rock bands of the era, most notably, the Rolling Stones, sold out and made a few disco songs does not give disco any legitimacy as a subcategory of rock. That said, I begrudgingly admit that Chic probably belongs in the Rock & Roll HOF at some point, if for no other reason than Nile Rodgers went on to become a successful record producer in rock, although his achievments in rock are somewhat offset by the fact that he is primarily responsible for Madonna's breakthrough. Nevertheless, there are a helluva lot of bands that should go in ahead of Chic, particularly ones that didn't make disco music or resort to that "one disco record" to get them through a fad. Incidentally, and in response to the aforementioned racist reviewer, the bass line on "Le Freak" was NOT ripped off for Queen's "Another One Bites the Dust". In fact, the bass lines to the two songs are not even that similar to each other.

totally over rated, the fact that the HALL has considered these flash in the pans for the past 4 years is bizarre, when classic rockers like RUSH, MOODIES, CHICAGO sit out side teh playing lines is just odd.

Unarguably the most influential of all the disco groups. Baffled why they didn't go in their first year of eligibility. Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards were unparallelled geniuses.UPDATE: 4th STRAIGHT year turned down--what a JOKE. Keep trying, please, KEEP TRYING---you'll make it soon!

Here's the problem...you say they're not R&R but you've put plenty of artists in who you could say the same about...and they were influential, no doubt. They were on the ballot this year so it'll be soon I think.

Read my review of Donna Summer to see why disco is a form of rock. Like it or not, disco was THE form of rock in the late 70's, despite what white people will tell you.Besides that, Chic were most definitely the greatest disco band, had two of the top ten disco songs ever ("Le Freak", "Good Times", which was sampled for "Rapper's Delight", and had its bassline ripped off by Queen in "Another One Bites The Dust"), and one of the most respected producers ever in Nile Rodgers. Currently one of the Hall's biggest omissions.

Disco. Enough said. Only Nile Rodgers' influence is a plus.

Another bad disco endeavour, why are they even listed here. Nothing about Chic was Rock n Roll
ElvisC 12/04/2005
Maybe only because they wrote the back track for Rappers Delight.

Chic is definitely in the Urban music Hall Of Fame. They were the best, technical, musically proficient band in the Disco scene with the exception of the Bee Gees. Also the production work of Nile Rodgers with David Bowie and others is superb. Not rock and roll but they should be highly regarded in the whole pop music community.
