Barf. If RRHF can't let the likes of the Moody Blues, Styx, and Journey in, these dudes need to GO TO THE BACK OF THE BUS.Not like I hate them or anything....but c'mon....let's get our priorities straight people!
GuardianAngel 03/22/2009
way too hi on this list, mid-major 80s new romantic band, with some edge. Bon Jovi for the post-punk crowd.
sami87 03/02/2009
Duran Duran was the decade of 80, a generation, revolutionized the video clips, has launched several hits. A band that in 30 years. and has released albums since 1981. A band worthy of respect and worthy of having the name in the hall of fame.
TeresaG 09/27/2008
While in the 80s I did like their music ~ Rock and Roll Hall of Famers? AH....NO!
Moose74 04/12/2008
No thank you. But, I must admit, this is a bit of a protest vote against a reviewer who has made a habit of going through this list and giving 1 star and summing up their review with one word, "no"; ocasionally "no no no". Said reviewer also gave 1 star to Steppenwolf while admitting they didn't know the group. (This was one of their more expansive reviews) Said reviewer, inexplicably, has given Duran Duran 5 stars. Hungry like the Wolf? I don't think so. Just my effort to offer some balance. At least I know who the group is! The theme to "A View to a Kill" was also less than groundbreaking.
marco3antonini 03/23/2008
the best band in this world!!!!
tcmayer 03/19/2008
They deserve win Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Amazing band!
Chriscarbs 03/19/2008

Please don't insult the true rock pioneers with this group.
cindy7609 11/29/2007
Duran Duran deserve to be inducted!
FranksWildYear s 11/22/2007
Only if there is no such thing as a Poseurs Hall of Fame, and I suspect there isn't, so they can't be inducted to it, but there should be. They were a chart phenomenom for a brief period and they are still able to pull it back together and chase after their original rabid core audience every five years, but that's not the stuff of Hall of Famers.
jlovesh 10/01/2007
Still around after all these years and still breaking hearts!
redman23 08/27/2007
Ushered in the MTV generation. Great melodies and underrated musicianship. Helped to define New Wave music. Absolutely deserve enshrinement in my opinion.
Okman 07/29/2007
Ordinary World, Save a prayer, New Religion, Chauffeur, Secret Oktober live, Some of the best songs ever written by anyone! Induct them soon!
WuzUp 03/27/2007
this is a joke, right? not a prayer.
durandruan 03/21/2007
hell yeah man
mjhaag 01/27/2007
Another act I never really considered. But they had some fine songs that still sound good 25 years later. They had style. They played a big role in early MTV. I vote yes.
earthartist2 08/06/2006
Listen to the Chauffeur and tell me these guys don't belong in. Not every song is a winner, but these guys have created much art for the ears.
doobiesNhof 05/25/2006
Some good stuff for dancing and partying but not strong enough for RRHF.
dvorak 02/07/2006
what the hell is wrong with all you people? did contemporary crap took over you to such a degree you forgot what great music was all about, or worst- you never would've recognize one even if it hit you in the face. the greatest music ever resides in the 80's and no other band represent that fact better then DD.
marto 02/03/2006
duran duran rock. they better get inducted in 2007 dont forget to sign my duran duran rock hall petition so they get in http://gopetition.com/sign.php?currentregion=237&pe tid=7293
UrethraMiacin 01/28/2006
One of the most influential bands of the '80s.
Habs10 12/05/2005
Duran Duran? No No!
Djahuti 11/28/2005
Bad 80s music I'd sooner forget.
thylacine 10/01/2005
i would have no problem letting them in, but first more women must be inducted, as they (women) had a harder time making it then these pretty boys. Not to negate their talent (because i believe Duran is a VERY talented unit). but they really didn't break any barriers did they?...Maybe after The Go-Go's, Linda Rondstadt, and Carly Simon and a slew of others are allowed in. Sorry just my opinion.
sfalconer 09/13/2005
Pleeeeaasse why does this pop group rank so high.
StarCollector 09/12/2005
One of the best Pop Rock bands ever! Duran Duran are seriously under-rated by many people. They play their own instruments, and wrote their own songs. I can't say that about some of the new musicians of today's industry. They have never made a bad album or song, either. So, what if they weren't like everyone else during the 80's and were innovative. Who cares if they had pop-rock tunes which were incredible to dance to. Why should they be judged because of how they dressed? And because of all that people thought they were gay, etc. That's not critiquing that's stereotyping. And they did front the MTV music video movement. No one, until they came along, had ever seen videos like what they put out. They were unique and continue to be even today. For that they should be greatly honored, alongside all those others whom have also recieved that honor.
numbah16tdhaha 08/24/2005
Synth and bad suits. Souljunkie, you are a genius.
souljunkie 08/24/2005
This kind of club pop music always made me puch. It had no male energy what so ever, (not that that is neccessarily criteria for getting in) but it sold millions, cant deny it. This kind of crap is just too big in Europe. Ya know..synth and bad suits and stuff. Does this crap get any radio airplay anymore? Again, volumes of sales but no character. I would not be surprised if they get in but NO is my very loud vote here.
Jettmiester 08/16/2005
Duran Duran Rock n Roll??? hahahahahahahahahahahaha
duran2 08/13/2005
i think duran duran are very awesome band and they rock, what other band has sold over 70 million copies and still have a large fan base around the world. people even follow them to other cities and countries to see them in concet. so what other band has loyal and faithful fans who do that for a band, they have a star on hollywood and i think that them being in the rock and roll hall of fame is along overdue. so please add the band to the hall of fame.
hartorama 08/03/2005
Duran Duran were truly pioneers as far as the video era goes. They had awesome songs, and great ground-breaking videos to go with them. I still to this day haven't seen anything as good.
jamestkirk 07/29/2005
Did they have the staying power that I feel is required for HOF entrance? They were not a group for the 80s. They were early 80s. After '85, they were off the map.
bknuttgen 07/19/2005
This band was responsible for many firsts, and they are still coming out with fresh and innovative ideas, even after 25 years. They are even better now in concert than they were in the 80s, which is saying something. For those on this board who have commented on things like hairspray and that they were not pioneers, it is obvious that they have limited knowledge of both the band and the 80s. (Who didn't use too much hairspray back then?) Their catalogue of music is incredible and varied, and there is a lot more to them than a few catchy songs.
poptrash 07/18/2005
Best band in the world
CanadaSucks 07/14/2005
Too much hairspray, not nearly enough 'great' albums or singles, way to 80's. . .
insightunicorn 07/14/2005
Duran should go in as they are a great band. that came out of the 80's and is still going strong. with new records and tours. and many old as well as new fans. Many Blessings Keep Duraning Inisight Unicorn a.k.a. laura hughes
kingguiness 07/13/2005
They had quite a few catchy songs but they really were'nt all that. And while they were one of the first MTV bands they clearly did not pioneer the movement. There were countless others.
aztec1124 07/13/2005
Long overdue - they were pioneers of the 80's video movement which revolutionized MTV and spawned the birth of VH1 and other music channels... Not to mention they still play their own instruments, write their own lyrics and sing their own songs!
Susan Hibbert 07/13/2005
They were the fore runners of the MTV video movement!
MariaSofia 07/13/2005
I feel Duran Duran deserve to be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame firstly they have been around for over 25 years and are still going...stronger then ever. They rocked then and they rock even harder now! They have written and still write amazing songs. Let's not mention how they contributed to the rise and start of MTV. They were one of the pioneers of the music video, without their videos, we'd probably still be watching videos that consisted of a band playing on stage with a fog machine in the back.
SsavvyStuff 07/13/2005
Duran Duran have been GREAT since their inception, over 25 years ago, and today, despite a hiatus of the original members of the band, they are better than ever, especially in person. Their music is original and captivating, not to mention melodic and danceable. They have been around for longer than other members of the Hall of Fame and deserve to be recognized for their contributions to music and rock 'n roll.
khanada83 07/13/2005
They pioneered the music video. For that alone I think they should be in, but I'll elaborate. They were one of the biggest bands in the 80s and the 90s, and proved that there can be more to pop than just a bunch of pretty faces. They wrote their own songs and played their own instruments. They weren't contrived, they weren't a studio group, they weren't put together by a music mogul like some bands are today. They started just like any other rock band. The only reason they get a bad rap is because they chose to take the path of the teeniebopper magazine. They were young, they didn't know any better. But I think the music speaks for itself. Look past the hits, look at their ENTIRE catalogue. There's more than just throwaway hits, there's deep, meaningful songs in their repertoire. Hopefully people will realise this and induct them into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
hlmbmom 07/13/2005
Fan since 1982. Love how they have evolved in that time. Duran Duran is timeless and they have inspired many of today's artists.
alban 07/12/2005
They are the ultimate band on Planet Earth. Regards, Vishal Sharma. India.
lori_leopard 07/12/2005
Long over due. They still rock, play their own instruments, write their own music and play live shows.
morianna 07/12/2005
World domination. Millions of devoted minions. THE original Fab Five. Duran Duran in the mid-eighties were simply gods. They could do no wrong in the public's eye...until they broke up into interesting side-groups and ultimately failed to reform into the Fab Five. A lighter, sleeker Duran Duran (version 2.0) continued to offer innovative music for another decade. Duran Duran were unpopular and edgy and alternative! A totally complete guily pleasure. I was a subversive fan, often times turning complete innocents into admirers. Now, Duran Duran (a re-formed version 1.0) are offering new music for another decade. Not content to ride their laurels, Duran Duran continue to offer original and evocaative music. Don't know about you, but I think *that* is worthy of being inducted into the Hall of Fame.
