Patton has been over-mythologized. Sure, he had natural gifts. . .but it was his soldiers that did the dying and fighting while he was reading history and poetry and wondering how he was going to be remembered.

And in true deus ex machina fashion, he was killed in an auto accident before he had to find out.

He never spoke truer than that, and he died right after the end of hostilities in Europe in 1945. Can't help but wonder what the Korean conflict would have turned out like, had we had Patton running the show.
