Bierce didn't get a chance to see Anarchism at work especially during the Boloshevik Revolutation in the Ukraine or most especially in the Spanish Civil War. Society would prefer a dictator of the Salazar or Franco mold over Anarchist terror any day! Except for Hitler and the Commies, many dictators are merely authoritarian rather than totalitarian.

Nazism, Communism and Anarchism are totalitarian doctrines and mentalities.
