Unlike other one-hour episodes...thankfully, a rarity when it came to the "Twilight Zone"...this one kept me interested and engaged, even though I could see the ending coming a mile off (which, in fairness to the series, may be because I'm watching it over 40 years after it was first released, and my "innocence" regarding twist, O. Henry type endings is long gone). Martin Balsam effectively conveys the sad, obsessed nature of his character, although some of the other actors come off less well (the guy playing the brother-in-law is particularly annoying). What earns the episode an extra star from me is the genuine creepiness of the wax figures. They're pretty disturbing as they stare down blankly (or maybe not so blankly) at the people observing them. For a moment or 2, I actually had some trouble determining whether they were actors or actual wax figures (they're actors). Nothing really surprising here, but I generally enjoyed the episode, and the other one-hour episodes I've seen have left me thoroughly bored. So, if you want to take that as an endorsement...

Things were moving along just fine until a horrible ending. We learn that Martin Balsam's character committed all three murders, despite him not being in the same room when any of the murders took place, and we even see on of the wax figures commit murder. With that in mind, I had to deduct a notch, but still a relatively good episode and one of the better hour-long episodes and that it has enough material to avoid seeming drawn out.

Not a bad story, badly damaged by some serious flaws in internal logic particularly as it nears its climax. Not one of my favorites.
