"If the glove don't fit, you must acquit!" his famous words will live on forever. Great man and lawyer.

I think he will forever be misjudged based on one of his many clients: OJ. Regardless...he was a excellent defense attorney and did his best to see that the accused received their fair day in court. AND...like it or not...one IS all the way innocent until 'proven' guilty.

I will say that he was a likable guy. That being said, I disagree that he was a brilliant lawyer based on the OJ trial. Mickey Mouse could have gotten OJ off with a jury that WAS NOT NEVER, NEVER, EVER going to vote guilty regardless of evidence. They got the jury they wanted, and that was the end of the ballgame.

I hear he did more than help a killer play the links, but that was BS. Hope it's hot enough for ya John Boy.

He was a good man and a fine lawyer. Never did he take his job for granted and he sure had lots of lawyer savvy in him. I'm gonna miss him because he fought for what was right. Mr. Cochran, God wants you in His kingdom forever.

I have a hard time mourning for a lawyer. I have heard good and bad about him. so I did not have a big reaction when I learned of his death.

When I heard that he died, it almost gave me chills. All I could think of was how it must feel to be in his shoes and stand before God now, after all he did to promote hatred, division, and deception. It's also very sad that someone with his intelligence would work so hard to help a violent murderer get away with his crime, while smearing the reputation of an entire police force at the same time.

And another festering turd whirls down the big ceramic bowl. So long scum bag...I wouldn't want to have to explain your story.

Lawyer, n. One skilled in circumvention of the law. --His most proud achievement was getting a famous murderer acquitted, of course (by the way, has he found the real killer yet? isn't it about time for a report?). I give him an extra star because he DID help some people get justice; they're people you never heard of, and they're his earlier cases.

I hated him while he was alive but actually had a little pang of sympathy once I heard of his death. He was a damn good lawyer and if I turned my wife into ground beef I certainly would have given him a call. Cochran reminds us that justice is for sale- that's something that some Americans have to come to grips with. Cochran was a real American - find your talent and exploit it. My favorite Johnnie line of all time: Innocent until proven broke.

Who are celebrities going to go to now when they get in trouble with the law? Like him or not, Cochran was a brilliant criminal defense attorney. He was best known in his role as OJ Simpson's lawyer in his high profile murder trial. Despite all the evidence indicating that OJ indeed did kill his wife, Cochran was able to convince a jury that there was sufficient cause to question whether he did it. In his dramatic closing arguments, he made the now famous claim if it does not fit, you must acquit in reference to a bloody glove that investigators believed was connected to the murder. It didn't fit, because it probably shrunk over time. The trial overall was a circus with a whole cast of characters, including that incompetent judge who let it go on. The jury indeed did acquit and it was all entirely Johnny's show. He was also a lifelong advocate for victims of police brutality; he cut his teeth in the profession defending people making claims against life enforcement. After OJ he remained active in the law until at least a month before his death, when he was still advising Michael Jackson on legal strategy despite the fact that he was suffering from an inoperable brain tumor. I know one thing, Jackson and his clientele are going to be missing his sharp legal mind. Being a defense attorney requires being dramatic, charismatic and unscrupulous all at the same time. Cochran managed to pull it off well.

He's an icon for black men....are you kidding...a black attorney as successful and intelligent and still controversial...how many Johnnie Cochran's are there out there? Not many. I admire him and I'm not a man, or black!
