Oh, that's right, this is about global warming. Isn't it? And wars over oil, right. How then does any self-respecting, war-hating, peacenik liberal justify NOT drilling for oil in ANWR? Which is more objectionable, a few caribou inconvenienced or another war over oil? Oh, BOTH are objectionable equally? Well, now, that's a quandary. The Alaska Pipeline was OK, but drilling in the huge, pristine and useless wildlife reserve, which hardly anyone ever sees ANY part of, represents raping the environment. I can almost hear the planet groaning. Or, maybe that's not the planet groaning . . .

Anyone who thinks this is not a big priority is either a fool or has huge investments in fossil fuels. The population is growing to the point where tha planet groans, and industrialization is merrily ripping apart the last few wild places. If no alternative is found, there will be war for control and access to the ever decreasing supplies,as well as more and worse catastrophic events from climate changes and global warming. Not a pretty picture, folks!

There is Govt. funding that is used to research so many things. This includes scientist trying to discover what gene or hormone/chemical might cause an animal to be homosexual. Then try to find a "cure". I think grant money would be better spent on alternative energy. They're close to finding some kind of genetic catalyst which might turn weeds, branches,& lawn clippings into sugar to make alcohol. If this or something like it happened soon, the big bad "Islamo-Facists" wouldn't be nearly as well funded. In Millbrae CA they're using discarded cooking grease to power 80% of their sewage treatment plant. Energy indepenance should be a top priority. This is a National Security Issue.

I'm all for cheaper/cleaner fuel, and disagree completely with the previous two posters. I think that consumer demand could cause companies to start producing better vehicles, if we could only get consumers to demand them. I also don't think that the Alaskan reserve would solve the problem for all that long, given the ever-increasing rate at which oil is being consumed. You can't forget that as third world countries start to catch up, they will also demand and consume more fuel.

It's important but who gives a rat's ass? Oil will run out and we will make changes when we have no choice. They could build cars that don't pollute as much or use as much gas butr oil companies prevent them from being mass-produced because (1) car manufacturers won't have it and (2) oil companies won't have it. Doesn't bother me because I'll be retired in the mountains by then. . .
