Even if we consider the so much praised "separation of Church and State" which is no where to be found in the Constitution, what it really means the State has no right to interfere in the matters of the Church. The Church is not telling the government what to do, so why is the government telling then Church what to do?

Why do people want these removed anyways? Most of the commandments are either a)laws in America or b)a good idea regardless of religion.

I'm strongly for leaving ten commandments in the public buildings, I'm christian my self and by removing ten commandments, crosses, under God(from The Pledge Allegiance), In God We Trust(from money) only tells me that atheists want God out of USA and I will fight for my rights, my bulieves and for not removing God out of USA.

God Bless America!

I'm with Molfan. There certainly ARE bigger issues. I don't see it as being the topic of the year.

they are so many big world issues to "worry" about than if the ten commandments are posted in a public place.it is not hurting someone just for having them there. no one is forcing someone to believe in them. you do or you don't. let them be.

I see no reason to remove them.I'm not Jewish,Islamic or Christian, but they don't offend me.On the other hand,I don't see why they really need to be there, either. Most of the commandments are covered under secular law. Many of the people who profess to believe them have been breaking them for years, anyway.

As a liberal atheist, I just don't care that much. There is a lot more to worry about.

I personally could care less. Barely a blip on on the radar screen of important issues.

Not an important issue to me. Removal is generally seen by people on the right as a defeat at the hands of the increasingly strong atheistic (freedom from religion crowd) faction. Seen as a minor victory by those successful in accomplishing their removal, as in: it's about time. Things like this should be done on a local referendum basis, keeping the federal judges out of them, in my opinion. Local elected judges, who can be ousted from office, should decide things like this, not aloof, untouchable federal magistrates who are appointed for life. Decision makers should be accountable to the people whenever possible.

Saw in An Old USA Today Some Puke Cops working for REpublicans and or Democrats hauling off an old Man . The Old Man was only defending the ten commandments. The Ten Commandments were only about 5300 pounds of white marble siting at Roy Moores Court House doing NOTHING! What is it? DO POLICE ACTUALLY FAVOR BOMBINGS WITH 5000 POUND RUCK BOMBS? DID THE OKC PD ACTUALLY APPROVE THE ATTACK AT THE MURRAH FEDERAL BUILDING? NYPD AT WTC? WASH PD AND FED. LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENTS AT THE PENTAGON ON 9-11? MAYBE THEY HELPED PARTICIPATE IN THESE AND OTHER ATTACKS ON U S SOIL....HHHHHHHHMMMMMMMMMMMMM????????????/

Pretty far down my list, one way or the other. I take Enkidu's point, but I just can't get excited about it.

As I have said many times before, we have freedom of religion not freedom from religion.

As an important issue faced by the *human race*, which is the way it is implied on this list, no it barely registers in importance. As a U.S. citizen, however, keeping religion and state matters separate is extremely important to me. Get that religious artifact out of public buildings: this one isn't even close, folks. Thou shalt have no other gods before Me is RELIGION not a matter of the state.

It's a shame and a sign of the times we live in.

Not important to me. But it's important to some other people. Definition of freedom = separation of church and state. Of course, there are places that don't believe in separation. (Like the Taliban, for instance.) It took Jefferson over 7 years to ram the legistlation of separation of church and state down the throats of the Virginia legistlative body. . .and we're a better country for it. Deal with it or move somewhere else to build your new Jerusalem.
