Sioux or Lakota warrior, who, although he did not personally fight in the battle, is considered the overall commander of the Battle of the Little Big Horn. He had a dream before the battle that set the strategy, so the story goes. He took refuge in Canada but surrended to the Army in Montana in 1881. He settled on the Standing Rock Reservation in North and South Dakota. He toured with Cody's Wild West Show for a while. Cody would have him speak to the crowds. Sitting Bull would curse them in Lakota to wild applause! At the end of his life, Sitting Bull was drawn to the Ghost Dance religion but was not a member. When the Ghost Dance outbreak came, the Indian Police came to arrest Sitting Bull to keep him out of mischief. A fight broke out and Sitting Bull and his son were killed in 1890.
