When talking about footwear, I definitely prefer the Dr. Martens Shoes:

They're comfortable and cheap enough to be bought by somebody like me :-P

great shoes : )
i had one pair before these and they were used : ( but even that used pair lasted me years
i got these new ones last week for $59 on sportsmansguide they are the classic 8 hols style with soft (brown only) leather, and they are freaking great i just got the dr. martens shoe care kit and i plan to use it asap.

as for comfort : ) once they break in that is
also they make a dr. marten insole you can get it on the doc website for like $12 (i never thought docs could be any more comfortable then that already were, but with the doc brand insoles these feel even better then my old florishems i used when waiting tables : )

I got my first pair of Doc Martens a couple weeks ago. After having had my eye on a pair since I was 14, seven years later I finally dished some money out and spoiled myself with black 10-eyelet steel-toe army boots. I work 12-hour shifts in the market, and toughed out the week-and-a-half breaking in process without switching shoes the whole time even though it was torturous sometimes. My feet being used to skate shoes ever since I can remember, I had some blisters, bruising and went through a box of bandaids. Sometimes by the end of the day I limped home and seriously thought going to the doctor because I thought I had a broken toe (my foot was just getting used to new angles and cushioning). Now the breaking in process is finally over, and I can honestly say I love my Docs! They are molded to my feet, I can walk and run naturally in them and they no longer have that weird new stiff uniformal look. The most comfortable socks to wear with them I find are wool-cotton trail socks, with no toe-stitching for added comfort (the seaming on athletic socks caused problems and blisters). For care, I used mink oil/silicone for treatment and water-salt-resistant spray for protection. The other problem (besides breaking in issues...) I encountered is a tiny part of the sole is detached from the boot, but I'm sure that's only an accidental defect and can be repaired easily.

I have a pair of 0939CH Aztec Crazy Horse. I've heard a lot about them and saw punks, not preppies, wearing those. Word of mouth says they are of outstanding quality and highly comfortable, that's why they're so expensive. Originally from Germany, now in Britain, however they're made in China...still very expensive (don't be surprised if they cost over $100). Well I decided to try them recently and spent a Benjamin on those. They looked nice, the rest in DSW had heels that were too high and reminded me of female platform shoes. Dr. Martens (DMs) are unisex, so some of their styles look feminine. When I picked them up, you can tell the soles are of top notch quality, they are soft and grip really well (resistant to just about anything, but remember even though they're resistant, they're not meant to ensure you'll never slip). You can hear the soles grip the ground when you're walking, even on concrete. The signature yellow stitching meant these shoes where going to last. The leather is very supple and top notch. I cannot stress how important it is to take care of the leather on your DMs, or they'll lose their original look and crack. Be careful choosing leather shoe care, most shoe care products don't go well with DMs because the leather especially on 0939s aren't smooth. Otherwords, no spit-shining here. The DMs Wonder Balsam is recommended. They are also not waterproof, but can be made water resistant by applying the balsam. Take care of your soles, because of their tacky nature, they tend to deteriorate more quickly if you step in grease, salt, etc. Clean them off and rinse them when your day is done. DMs don't offer 1/2 sizes or wide sizes, but the width varies from shoe to shoe. I'm a 4E, and the shoes fit me at the time I tried them on. There is no padding inside the 0939s and that reminded me of my 1st Wolverine shoes. Shoes with no padding = pain after standing for several hours. In my case, they started to hurt and got very painful after 6 hours of constantly standing/walking. This is frustrating because if you insert soles, your feet won't fit, there's no clearance for soles. If you put in heel inserts, the front of your feet will just hurt and you'll feel like you're leaning forward. Strange that a shoe with such good soles have such poor insoles. Also I noticed significant bruising and pain in my toes after I've worn them for a while. Wearing them for at least a week to break them in is recommended. You can mold the leather to your comfort. My left ankle, in the rear right about the heel, was getting rubbed raw in the beginning. I took a look at the rear of my DMs and found out why my left ankle hurt and not my right. The crease in my left boot was different from my right boot. I molded the crease so that they looked like my right boot, and never had a problem with that again. A shoe's most important factor is it's comfortabiliy, and this shoe doesn't deliver. Not only that, with the same price you can buy a good shoe if not better. I don't know how people can say these shoes are so comfortable.

I bought my first pair of Dr. Martens a few months ago and I have absolutely loved them. They match perfectly with any preppy outfit. They are generally pretty expensive shoes but they have great quality.
