Kevin Costner achieved for Native Americans a wonderful antidote to the odious image that was foisted on them by moviemakers, since the beginning of American cinema. It seems that no one would touch a film about N/A's unless a non-NA was assured the part, mainly for boxoffice security, but also because of inbred racism. What most people, worldwide, do not know is that, even other ethnic groups react to the negative images of Native Americans. And they hate Native Americans. So it's not only caucasians that discriminate against Native Americans, and not only caucasians who are racists. This is very important for people to know. This is a big reason this excellent movie is worth five stars. It marked a beginning. What have Native Americans learned from this courageous effort by Mr. Costner? I don't know if they've ever been asked. Hopefully, they will sponsor more worthy films like this one, and realize that film speaks to people all over the world. And that Native Americans are not savages, or the perpetually drunk stereotypes that was, and still is, their image to this day, even with third world people.
