In my opinion, Leslie Pierpont, owner of Native & Uncommon Plants, is Northeast Florida's leading expert on environmental issues and gardening. I am a "yankee" who found Florida gardening a real challenge - totally different than New York State. When we purchased our home it had nothing but very needy St. Augustine grass and 5 maple trees on nearly 1/2 acre in a subdivision. Leslie helped us choose plants and other landscaping features which are environmentally friendly, beautiful, need little water and nothing but organic foods. She taught me to get rid of unwanted plants (weeds) by pulling them up and not using harmful chemicals. Our yard is certified by the National Wildlife Federation as a Backyard Wildlife Habitat because we took Leslie's advice on almost everything!!
