Amazing Musical....will never, ever see it live (it would rune the movie for me) but the movie is one of my all time favorites! I would say that I have memorized the entire thing, but that would be lying since I always fast forward through the part where Maria and the Captain are in the garden by the gazibo. That part just never caught my fancy. I also can't stand the part when Leisle and Raulf are singing "I am sixteen" and she yell off the "WEEEEE" after he kisses her. That just bugs the heck out of me. Otherwise, I could watch this movie a thousand times (of which I am probably coming very close) and never get tired of it. Great Cast, Great Music, Great Musical!!

This movie meant a lot to me for two reasons: (1) I first saw it when it was brand-new, in a large theatre with incredibly good stereo. I was very young and had not been to many movies, and the quality of the sound in that place was mesmerizing. (2) Angela Cartwright and I are the same age and I had an enormous crush on her back then. It's a wonder I was able to follow the plot when I was fixated on her. That was long ago. But I'd still love to get a chance to see and HEAR that movie again, in one of those big old-fashioned theatres where the music absorbs you.

Probably the movie is the definitive version, however. Who can imagine anyone besides Julie Andrews as Maria? I have no desire to see this on the stage, but the music is timeless.

I didn't enjoy the Julie Andrews movie in anyway at all, except that she was a really good actress in it. I just can't see myself enjoying this play, unless they got some miracle actress to play the role.

If you like wallowing in self-pity and are afraid to show the goodness and caring in yourself, you won't like this. For those of us who will keep climbing every mountain with hope in our hearts, we will always cherish the best of Rogers and Hammerstein.
