I didn't like Illinois to start with, and the awful refs in the Arizona game made me call for blood. The Heels delivered. Thank you, Heels.

Not a particularly historically significant story. But a very intersting match up and a very well-played game. Roy Williams proved you really can go back. The real story is the fact that even the UNC Water Boy left the school to get into the NBA draft.

Good story in 2005 because the championship game came down to the two best teams. Both were well coached and talented. Many participants from the NCAA championship game will go on to make their mark(s) as professionals.

Two fascinating human interest stories serve as the backdrop to this great match-up. Roy Williams leaves Kansas after taking them to the title game and losing to Syracuse just 2 years ago. As the two were congratulating each other after that outstanding game, Boeheim assured Williams that he would be back and win his National Championship, and he was right. I'm not sure many Jayhawk fans are particularly happy with Williams, though. Bruce Webber showed America what professional courage is, and the kind of unwavering focus it takes to coach successfully at this level. Playing a couple of home games during the tournament didn't hurt their chances but he brought home the bacon, earning his trip to the title game with outstanding coaching and a little luck, which every champion needs to prevail. Webber will be back and joins an elite corps of coaches now. Williams has shed the monkey and the Tar Heels get to hang another banner in Dean Smith's shrine. The selection committee should all be fired, particularly in light of the fact that many secretaries across the country won their bracket pools, but I'm not bitter. There's another tournament in just 11 months.

As others have said, the Final Four is always a big story. Given North Carolina's talent package however, it would have been a bigger story if they'd lost.

The NCAA tournament is always a big event, especially the Final Four and Championship game. This tourny was very entertaining for basketball fans, and the Tarheels winning was a great story.
