Americas worst airline is now US Air. Take a flight on their express airline, Mesa Air, at your own risk. Several times I have had planes on the ground with Mesa and no pilots. I sat their two hours in both directions from So Cal to Las Vegas because they couldnt get their crews together although the plane was ready to go.

The reservation was a killer and mistakenly unaccurate. I tried to call the customer service several times and told that I made a mistake (well everyone makes a misktake) a few days after the reservation and decided they would still charge a $100 for any changes to the reservation so I did it. The airline ticket changed cost like $125 more plus the $100 charge. The aircraft was somewhat old and dirty too. I would probably not go to America West (maybe even US Airways) again unless I have to. Remember to watch your resevation carefully for a coach class discounted fare as that it is your only one chance before you make a mistake before your eyes and charge you $100 or more depending on the ticket, and because you choose the depart date, the return date will automatically go one day after the departure date.

I have an refund issue. I emailed them two times. Called inquiry numbers have waited more than 30 minutes on the line never got responded. I hate this airline. When I had a delayed flight, they did nothing. Just promise to refund. Just giving me a copy of refund application took an hour. Do notfly do not fly do not fly wiyh US Airways.

I have never completed a roundtrip with America West without at least one leg of the trip being terribly delayed. In requesting a refund on a recent delayed trip, I received a letter in the mail informing me that I was receiving a refund. When I called to follow-up with customer relations about the refund, it took me three phone calls (67 minute, 114 minute, and 43 minute wait times, respectively), before they finally informed me that they had been incorrect, and that after they had done further research, were no longer granting me the refund. I will never fly America West again (and actually only flew America West this time because my father-in-law booked the flight for us). And now that America West has joined with US Airways, I am also hesitant about future US Airways flights, as well.

I've flown them twice...KC-San Diego, then San Luis Obispo, CA-Las Vegas... Not very friendly employees and their planes didn't seem to be maintained well. We were delayed in San Luis Obispo and no announcments were made regarding why or when. Once we boarded, the gate agent came onboard to inform us that the flight was overweight and they needed to get volunteers to give up their seats for a later flight, delaying the flight even more. I am very familiar w/ the airline industry and they should have known this prior to boarding. Once they got the needed volunteers, the captain came on the PA and informed us that the plane was still too heavy for take-off and we were gonna sit at the end of the runway and burn off the extra fuel and hopefully get us to the maximum take off weight, delaying us even more. What was supposedly an on-time departure, turned out to be almost an hour late, and no one informed us as to why until after we boarded and no apology offered. I had a connecting flight in Pheonix to Vegas and had to make a mad dash to the next gate...since the delay had shortened my connection to considerably. Once I got to the gate...turned out the connection flight was delayed as well! I understand delays, trust me...but an explantion and an apology go a long way.

Pros: cheaper First Class fares than most majors, cheap transcon flights, assigned seats, good frequent flyer benefits Cons: one of the worse delay records, history of poor customer service, cramped seating on 737s and 757s (try for Airbus)

It was horrible!!! I was on one of there very old planes and the seats were very tiny. I am never flying America West again!

I've flown them three times and was very satisfied with the experiences. One time, I booked a flight with a friend to Vegas, and he broke some ribs in an accident a few days before our trip, so we cancelled the trip. America West offered a FULL REFUND (we bought non refundable tickets)--all we had to do is send a doctor's note.

America west has had it's trouble in the past but is doing much better now. Most of the time you get the best price and some of the best service.

Near to non service and not cheap anymore. flights are often delayed and uncomfortable with minimal service

Ive flown with AW many times. I was a loyal customer untill I needed to change a flight for a ticket I purchased worth $501, long story short they said they can only give me 5 $100 vouchers that can only be used one at a time and for tickets valued at over $400. This is CRAZY since most of the flights now cost about $200 - $300 round trip, I would actualy be loosing money each time I flew with the voucher. I would not recomend to fly with them ever. Your welcome to email me if you like, vthelmnt@aol.com if you have similar situations and can help me resolve this one. I did not accept the vouchers because it would have closed the issue.

I am basing my opinion on the one time I used America West Airlines. They were the cheapest for a flight into Minneapolis at the time. I spent more time in the plane waiting for it to take off and land at the terminal than I did on the actual flight. I had an infant with me, which didn't make the experience any better. They also lost my stroller on the way to Minneapolis (they kept it up front, but they didn't have it when I got off the plane). Needless to say, I had a heck of a time trying to cart an infant through the airport and had to purchase a new stroller (they never did find it). They also changed gate numbers/flight numbers almost every time I went to board a plane. Next time I won't go by cheapest price, I'll stick to the major airlines.

I've suffered a delay at the Phoenix hub with gate changes (in different terminals mind you) 6 times for a flight in perfect weather as well. Reliabilty is poor at best...

Just in the last week, I had one friend who had a flight substantially delayed in perfect weather with no explanation from America West, and my wife had her America West flight cancelled -- again with no explanation and in perfect weather. On top of that, the America West representatives were rude and acted with no sense of urgency in trying to find my wife an alternative flight. The America West "brain trust" of desk personnel suggested an alternative flight arriving 2 hours after her America West flight, but, fortunately, my wife knew of another airline offering a flight that arrived 1 hour BEFORE her cancelled America West flight and she was able to suggest that flight to the "brain trust" and get on it. A third-rate airline all around.
