 | Chalky Studebaker (17) 06/14/2007 | The "A" stands for Awesomely and the "W" stands for WOW! A&W is 'awesomely wow.' Nothing beats an A&W float!

 | twansalem (45) 05/07/2007 | The standard mass produced root beer. Sure there are better out there, but you'll be paying more for it.

 | 25yoWM (9) 04/13/2007 | Overly sweet without any tang. Hearing A & W is the Root Beer on tap is just slightly better than there being none at all...

 | operator 409 (7) 04/10/2006 | Has a buttery quality that is really off-putting. Love root beer, but A&W is vastly overrated.

 | RootBeerFanInMD (0) 02/07/2006 | A&W is probably the best mass-market available. I prefer Stewart's in a bottle, or 1919 on tap, but A&W will do in a pinch.

 | MariusQelDroma (37) 01/02/2006 | On a par with Barq's either solo or with ice cream in a float. A wonderful treat for the taste buds. About the only root beers that are better are the bottled in glass ones like IBC.

 | texasyankee (22) 08/25/2005 | It's the only root beer worth drinking, in my book. I have to be in a real mood to drink root beer, because it's a bit sweet for me and not a very good thirst quencher. I love A & W floats. Especially with chocolate ice cream.. about the only way I like chocolate ice cream.

 | Wid71 (9) 05/16/2005 | Nothing is better (except maybe Lemonade) on a hot day. A cold frosty mug of A&W Root Beer. It's even better if you can still find an A&W Root Beer stand somewhere. I always loved driving up and getting that mug propped on my window tray. Good memories...

 | Alexg681 (1) 01/07/2005 | I don't like root beer. I've had this one and Barq's and they're both about the same.

 | radishboy (0) 12/13/2004 | A&W rootbeer is the most incredible rootbeer on earth. IBC doesn't even come close, and if it wasn't in a glass bottle, no one would even like it.
(0 voted this helpful, 0 funny and 0 agree) |
 | mystic mango (0) 12/04/2004 | Good root beer, but it can't compare with IBC.

(0 voted this helpful, 0 funny and 0 agree) |
 | dragonman (4) 10/25/2004 | It's good as a very basic rootbeer but it's so bland and overly sweet. Take Barques or IBC over this.
(1 voted this helpful, 0 funny and 0 agree) |
 | jmoore79 (0) 09/03/2004 | It used to be better when it was sold at the drive-in restaurants. Now, I would say that 1919 Rootbeer is the greatest!! Too bad you can only get it in Minnesota.

 | Cindyo (10) 08/12/2004 | There are so many different kinds of rootbeer that sometimes it's hard to distinguish one from another since it's all the exact same drink. However, if I had to distinguish something about this rootbeer, it would be that it tastes more creamy, and has a smooth taste to it. It's really good. It's classic in a root beer float, especially in the summer.

 | arete1952 (1) 04/29/2004 | As Jello says, from the fountain it is the best and that version gets a 5. The bottled/canned version gets a 3.5. The best bottled root beer is Stewarts.

(1 voted this helpful, 0 funny and 0 agree) |
 | Jello (3) 04/26/2004 | This is the best IF you can get it from the A&W store, out of their fountain. It's just as good as the other root beers if you get it out of the can or the bottle. (can you get it out of the bottle? I dont see it there very often)

 | tvtator (6) 11/11/2003 | The best of the root beers, especially when it comes from an A&W restraunt. Sweet but not too sweet, foamy and the best for a root beer float.

 | kolby1973 (33) 08/02/2003 | This is by far the best root beer on the market, and not to mention it makes an awesome root beer float. Barq's could only wish to be this good. ALSO, A&W makes an excellent Cream Soda as well. The Cream Soda version has caffeine however, but it is still awesome :)....I recommend it to everyone. :)

 | pinkranger (1) 07/27/2003 | How can you beat the original root beer?! A&W is by far the best you can get in any form anywhere. Tastes best ice cold from the tap with a scoop or two of vanilla ice cream!!!

 | cherrycokeman (0) 07/22/2003 | barqs is better and its not good
(0 voted this helpful, 0 funny and 0 agree) |
 | Moosekarloff (21) 07/03/2003 | This is the best root beer on the market. I used to work for Hires, so I'm well acquainted with root beers from all over North America, and believe me, A&W is only rivaled by Stewarts and a few of the smaller, obscure, regional brands out there.
(3 voted this helpful, 0 funny and 0 agree) |
 | Winndix60 (0) 05/07/2003 | If you can find in it still in a glass bottle, its as good as it gets, (next to the tap). Out of a plastic bottle or can,,, I rate it a 2
Still my favorite root beer.

A&W is the absolute BEST carbonated beverage ever created! i call on all A&W lovers across the world to stand together and unite in a campaign to abolish all other imitations. we MUST make a stand if we are to see our beloved beverage conquer all others. i submit to you today, no- yesterday- that the boycotting of all inferior beverages (especially that abomination called barq's) will end world turmoil FOREVER!! such disruption in our rootbeer world must not be tolerated! let's make a stand!

 | EricTKO (0) 11/30/2002 | I gave it 3 stars as an average. At an A&W Root Beer Stand on draft it is pure 5 star stuff!! But in a can at the grocery it's not even 1 star!!!!!
(0 voted this helpful, 0 funny and 0 agree) |
 | LOTF1955 (0) 11/10/2002 | A&W is the King of Root Beers -- when you get it fresh at the stand. A frosty mug of this stuff, accompanied by a hot dog and fries, is one of the essential rituals of summer. The stuff they sell in the grocery stores is OK but not nearly as good. It's competitive with Barq's and better than Mug but premium brands like Thomas Kemper and IBC are better (and more expensive). I give the fresh stuff a 5 and the canned product a 3 (this would go up to 4, however, if they put it in glass bottles).

 | lukskywlkr. (3) 10/24/2002 | The best root beer I have ever had. I still prefer other soft drinks over this, but A&W does root beer better than anybody.

 | miklos1124 (0) 10/06/2002 | A&W is OK, other brands are better.

 | Molfan (64) 07/02/2002 | I would really give A&W root beer a 4.5. I like this root beer best of all the root beers. I like getting this root beer at the restaurants and they have done a good job canning this pop. When I am in the mood for a root beer I prefer the A&W. Our family likes to sometimes add icecream for root beer floats.

 | benfergy (0) 04/09/2002 | Of the 3 common Root Beers (AW, Barq's, and Mug), this is the best to drink by itself. (as opposed to in RB floats) There are some other root beers that are a bit better, but they also are more expensive. AW is great!

 | CastleBee (89) 01/17/2002 | This is some of the best tasting root beer going. At its very finest when served on draft at your local A&W drive-in, it is still very good in cans from the local grocery store. Nothing in the world of sodas quenches your thirst or refreshes quite like a frosty mug of this sudsy stuff on a really hot day!

 | pedrogouveia (0) 07/24/2001 | Root Beer is the worst tasting drink ever made!
It seems like only Americans like it. The truth is it tastes like fruity bubblegum and medicine combined!!!! How can you people like that???

 | Frank15 (0) 05/18/2001 | Boy... the difference a little caffiene makes... I simply DO NOT LIKE this root beer! I know, root beer was original meant to be uncaffienated, but after tasting Barq's root beer, how could ANYONE want to go back to this, which in comparison, is pure gunk? I suppose for foam lovers, though, this root beer produces MUCH more foam than Barq's does... I'd hardly consider that a plus, though.

 | callmetootie (5) 04/06/2001 | If you enjoy drinking Root Beer, then A and W is the best kind to get. It may explode all over you if you touch it with a 30-foot pole, but it still is worth the clean up.

 | raincat (0) 02/20/2001 | A & W rootbeer is delicious; even the diet kind is excellent. A & W rootbeer, ice-cold is a satisfying, full-bodied yet quenchable, gulpable drink. Great with those thick, crunchy A & W onion rings. Mmmmmm. And excuse me for adding this, but Barq's makes me barf!

 | mstowers (0) 12/16/2000 | A&W Root Beer is a classic. It's the best for root beer floats. My favorite soda in the world is the diet A&W Root Beer. I keep some on hand when I need to give myself a treat.
