In this day and age where the leader must be an actor and perpetrate a sham, a certain amount of charisma is necessary. Charisma and relying upon it may lead to disaster as almost happened to this country under the Kennedy Administration during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Kennedy thought his personal magnetism could carry him through. He kept the missiles a secret and then without consulting with our allies, or negotiating with the Soviets, released the data, laid down an ultimatum, committed an act of war by imposing a blockaid and skirted on the edge of destruction. Kennedy had personalized almost every decision making in the government into his own person since he thought he could always carry it off with his own aura.

This is good because charisma can motivate other people to want to do well plus it makes the leader likable. But having charisma doesn't automatically make this leader a good person. I've known people who have charisma and are so charming, but when you observe their fruits (their character,) they are the opposite to what they project and this charisma is just a deception. Charisma is OK, but for it to be great, there must be a good character to go along with it.
