Amazon.com's review of "Music From Big Pink": Music from Big Pink stands as one of those rare albums that turned the rock world on its axis. On this record, released in 1968 at the height of the psychedelic revolution, the five members of the Band (along with producer-sideman John Simon) eschewed spacey diversions, opting for an earthier route. An overlooked and underrated debut album by one of the great acts of the rock and roll era. The Band proved themselves to be truly great interpreters of Bob Dylan's work, as evidence in "Tears of Rage," "The Wheel's On Fire," "I Shall Be Released." The songs "The Weight," "We Can Talk," and "Chest Fever" are first rate. The playing is outstanding, and the lo-fi production values have a spare simplicity that makes the hyped-up digital static of the present epoch sound like white noise.

All these years later, this lp still is amazing. The Band invented their own kind of modern country rock. Go buy it right now (and their second one too).

Great debut for Dylan's former backing BAND. Classic return to roots rock from the sixties along with Dylan's John Wesley Harding and The Byrds' Sweetheart of the Rodeo.
