If you listen to the catalog of songs written and performed by the members of Squeeze, there is no possible way you could think badly of them. While, for whatever reason, they didn't sell in mega-numbers, they gave us a huge number of catchy power-pop classics. The kids at work know and love these songs(from growing up with them).

These guys were of the New Wave, not of the classic rock era. Yet, they were a prime example of power pop of that period. Difford and Tillbrook were very fine songwriters and compelling singers. Their albums were well played and produced. They had a stronger following among other musicians than the general public, which tells you plenty. "If I Didn't Love You" is one of the great songs of its time. A generally overlooked outfit.

I love the band Squeeze. They are just to the left of center with their music and lyrics that make them stand out and separtates them from other bands of that era. The songwriting team of Difford and Tilbrook is outstanding and it is refreshing to know that they are back on speaking terms and on stage once again. The line-up of Squeeze that I preferred included Paul Carrack instead of Jools Holland. Carrack complimented Glen Tilbrook's vocals and even took center stage on their classic song "Tempted." If anyone should doubt this, they should give a listen to "Loving You Tonight," possibly one of the best and unnoticed song Squeeze ever did. I don't get off on comparisons to Costello and other quote "new wave" bands of the 80's era. Squeeze is Squeeze. They can stand alone on their own merits.

Though Squeeze should be considered a terrible "classic rock" band (the list the group is presently on), they were easily one of the better new wave bands of the late 70's, early 80's. Songwriters Chris Difford and Glenn Tilbrook were prolific during this period, cranking out fresh and (at least should have been) radio friendly singles during their prime. Back in the day, Squeeze's 1982 compilation "Singles - 45's And Under" was omnipresent on college dorm speakers and for good reason, as there isn't a dud in the bunch. The band was largely ignored in the States, but MTV gave the group some much-deserved exposure. Classic rock they ain't, but Squeeze is a five star new wave band in my book.

In retrospect the more songwriterly acts of UK's 80s New Wave scene come across as self-conscious and dated, as if they were trying to distance themselves from the preceding punk scene while not wanting to be associated with the rock sh*t that came before. I'm speaking of Elvis Costello and Squeeze in particular. When I hear one of Squeeze's songs it sounds as if they're trying too hard to be like the Beatles and especially The Kinks, what with tales of suburban drudgery blah blah. Both vocalists also had limited singing ability, one sounding flat and the other fey. All a bit bogus really.

I'm with the opinion that Difford & Tillbrook's compositions made a lot of Lennon & McCartney's music (particularly their early stuff) sound just like pretty little ditties.

What??? Difford and Tilbrook better than Lennon and McCartney? You are joking, right? A couple of good songs, yes, but... oh hell, forget it, its not worth it.

Great band and the writing of Glenn Tilbrook and Chris Difford makes that of Lennon and McCartney sound like offerings at a primary school parents evening. I don't know that I would include them in the classic rock genre.

Successful but very underrated band.

A rather quirky new wave/ power pop act of the late 70's/ early 80's, more popular in their native England than here in The States. Had their moments, though I think "Tempted" is overplayed and easy to get sick of. My favorites by them were "Is That Love" and "If I Didn't Love You."

I like Squeeze - i had the Singles - 45's and Under record growing up and used to love Goodbye Girl and Take Me I'm Yours... 'I've come across the desert to greet you with a smile, my camel looks so tired it's hardly worth my while...'

Tempted is my favorite hit from Squeeze. I remember seeing the video on MTV when i was a kid on the old Zenith console when cable tv came out in the early 1980's. I was envyed when i seen those members of the band singing with those great looking women on stage in the video. I thought it was so cool! I have the Singles 45's and under cd just for that hit. Dispite the hit, i don't think its a great band.

Another tragically overlooked band from the 70's and 80's. In most cases the American public was listening to Styx. Shame on Them!

They should have been massive! Difford and Tilbrook were the Lennon and Mc of the 80s.East side story one of the best albums ever released.
