05/09/2008 | Depends. Carefully picking things out with a fork and placing them to the side is no problem.
Rooting through your omelet with your bare hands, holding bits of matter up to the light to identify them, snorting and flicking them on the floor might indicate a certain lack of breeding.

04/07/2008 | I think it would look better to pick things out of your food than to sit there and gag. Now that would be low class.

06/21/2007 | If you don't like a certain item, just ask a waiter to exclude it, why get it and then pick it out?

02/19/2007 | Okay, suppose you're allergic to mushrooms. You order a
meal at a restaurant without realizing that the plate you asked for has
mushrooms in it. What are you going to do? It's certainly
not worth asking the waiter to take it back, so all what you do is put
the mushrooms to the side and eat the rest of the meal. What's so low
class about that? You certainly don't want to get seriously ill
because you feel that you have a social obligation to eat everything on
your plate. To think otherwise would be just plain foolish.

03/15/2006 | I can't consider this particularly low class because there are almost always circumstances for picking things out of your food. At least in my case. I happen to be allergic to a few things. And you can tell a restaurant that you are allergic but there are places who disregard it, and will put the shrimp in the salad even after you specifically say......I am allergic. Either that, or they could serve something that you just absolutely detest. I think if you have no intention of eating it, you shouldn't force yourself just to appear "classy." Its better than saying "I'm going to eat this even though I may vomit afterwards."

05/27/2005 | Sometimes food items/ingredients are put into a dish without your knowledge and it's something you don't like or are perhaps allergic to. You have 2 choices: You can either pick the ingredient out or you can make a big fuss and have the waiter take it away and do it all over again. I think option one is the kinder thing to do and safer as well. Some cooks don't like their food being criticized and may put a surprise in your food just for spite.

04/21/2005 | My husband hates onions, and if they're in his food, he'll pick em out. what's he supposed to do, eat this stuff that literally makes him gag? I do admit however this stuff bugs me at times.I guess because when I was a kid, we ate it as is, or else we got a whippen when we got home, so now I eat it like it's given, no complaints.

04/17/2005 | If you do it carefully and when no one is looking, this isn't such a big deal. Especially if you don't like a particular part of the meal.

04/14/2005 | It never fails: whenver we order chicken noodle soup at a restaurant, my husband makes that face, and starts picking out all the bits of celery and carrots that may be invading his territory. Sometimes, he'll go into that familiar It's chicken-noodle-soup, not chicken-noodle-vegetable-soup rant. I don't care if you pick stuff out, just don't make a big deal out of it.

04/13/2005 | not so classless. One can do this in a discreet way. If I find there is something in a dish i ordered I hate i will quietly move them out.{like peas in a stir fry] I do not make a big production about it but why choke down something I hate. beats being a pain i the neck and expecting the kitchen to remove the items for me.

04/12/2005 | You know, you can't really help it if something like say mushrooms make you sick and you didn't realize they were part of the dish when you ordered. You don't have to make a big production out of it - it can be done descreetly.
