Not a bad set there. They'd definitely be some of the longest I've seen, though they did get me thinking about why I grow my own out (no you silly DEA people, I don't do that sort of thing! :P ) Freakishly similar to my own I must say but about 4 times as long. I notice the middle finger nail bends off slightly inwards (to the right as viewed in the picture). That thumb nail could nearly make a clarinet reed! (yikes!)

I spent about 10 years growing my nails out to about 1cm max before they eventually break or snap. I can recall about 15 uncomfortable moments and 1 comment of curiosity with a complimentary tone.

Those of you who find the odd white mark on your nails may wish to note the mark appearing during periods of ill health. While I'm no doctor (heaven forbid!) I did read that the white mark is in fact a small calcium deposit caused by a brief pause in nail growth. So in fact, the man with the clean clear long nails is probably a man who rarely gets sick. This in turn could go towards explaining the eastern cultures' favour of them. 'Course it could also be the fact that they grow out from not doing a tap of work/lazyness. It could even be partly genetic (as in my case).

Personally, I actually don't know why I grow my nails. A sight like that would certainly scratch a few comfort zones! Certainly not the norm. I guess I'll have to get a guitar as a viable excuse

Just out of curiousity, why would one want long, long nails? Woman or man, it just seems as though it would get in the way of every day, well, just regular duties? I remember having girl-friends with long nails. It was fun for them because they would put somesort of statemtent or artwork on them. And they were pretty. But they could not play any kind of sport or do regular everyday activities we all need to do (dishes, laundry, etc). I think it's great if that's what you like and it's your thing. But I'm simply curious as to why.

I'm a 19 year old guy and i'm trying to grow my nails now that I can't join the Marines. But not like the one in the photo since i still workout extensively, very hard to keep my nails from breaking when lifting wieghts. After the are about half an in long im going to turn them into claws like Sarumon the White in Lord of the Ring. But long clean healthy nails indicate he takes care of himself quite well in my book.

Men with long, really well done nails have a mysterious sexiness. More and more are using dark polish (especially on toes), and men look more well-groomed when their fingernails are a bit long, well varnished with clean white tips. And a little extra length on the pinkie nails adds to the look.

These are beautiful. I'm a straight man with long nails myself. I'm 46 and have had long nails since I was 13, and I'd never be without them. For as long as I can remember (back to the age of 5/6) I wanted to have long nails. I always keep them very clean (I clean them twice a day) and have a professional manicure every two weeks. I wear clear polish on them. I don't understand the antipathy that some people have towards men with long nails. In some Asian cultures it's very acceptable for men to grow (very) long nails. Mine are about 3/4-inch from the fingertip and I intend to grow them longer when I retire - to the length I had them when I was a student (over an inch - perhaps 1.5 inches).

It depends on the man, I guess. It seems a bit femme to me. I don't know any man except for a couple of my gay friends that would do this.

There's this young guy at my local McDonalds that has these long slender fingers and loooonger manicured nails with clear polish. I hate to have him touch me when he gives change. I think he's saving up for his operation.

Unless you're a transvestite, elderly and unable to groom yourself or you're foreign and it's part of your culture this simply shows the world how lazy you are. You aren't projecting a good image of yourself.

Whenever I see long nails on a man I assume it's used for coke. Yea it's classless.

While I am not so much a fan of really long fingernails on anyone, you never know what they could be for. They really could just be to make playing Spanish guitar easier like this one guy I know. You just never know, so no it's really not classless.

Wow, people are so judgemental. No wander Jesus told people that if they judge, they to will be judged. Take this seriously because you don't want God to judge you. Because He doesn't care what you ware or the length of your nails. He will judge you on a moral basis. Funny with God's judgement. If you judge someone on something that isn't a moral issue eg how long their nails are, God won't judge you on how you look. The way you judged that person physically is the exact same way God will judge you spiritually. So He will criticise you and shame you in the same way you criticise and shame a person for not having a physical characteristic. You don't want God to do that, because that could mean you will be punished if God judges you. It is a very unfortunate thing to fall into divine punishment (see Hebrews.) I suppose you would have shamed John the Baptist, who spent all his time in the desert baptising people. I'm sure that wouldn't have been a big priority for him. You know, the only people in Jesus time who would judge a man for not cutting his nails would have been the Pharisees, because they judged and looked down on Jesus for not washing His hands before He ate. And Jesus (our Lord) rebuked them.

Oh, yuck. Men with long nails show two things, either laziness or not being taught properly by parents. Dignity to have long nails? not even if clean. It looks unmanly, plus he could hurt someone with it even if is by accident. Men with long nails look like a bad guy, or maybe try, a really weird person. Not even good hygiene. No good qualities. Totally disgusting!

You do realize that one can not really cross dress effectively without having nails too. Anything other than a French manicure, however, does border on gauche.

I don't like to see this but as long as they are clean it's no big deal. To each his own.

Not really lacking in class. If he doesn't hurt nobody with his long fingernails, that's fine. Let the man keep his dignity.
