Yep, no question about it. No tie, no class. Give me a freakin' break.

I shudder to think of an alternate dimension or a future where people who don't know how to tie a tie and the like are put into 1984 -like concentration camps after perusing some of the more ludicrous items on this list...I guess it's a useful enough skill, I don't wear them unless I have to, but I'm in the Ted Williams camp on this...

Original comment: What if I know how to tie a military knot but not a Windsor knot? Is one more classy than the other? And where's the knot monitor so I can find out? Give me a break here. This list is out of control. Update: I'm sorry to see this ridiculous and patently offensive list rear its ugly head yet again. This is the kind boneheaded list you just wish someone would delete.

I learned how to tie a tie when I was a young boy but if this is lacking class then 95% of the men I see are guilty.

Yea, my uncle once went to his daughter's funeral with a tie tied in a square knot. Hey, at least it was comic relief.(he was a mechanic, so never wore a tie before that)

It's not really classless, just a lack of proper education and something that can be learned within ten or so minutes. Guys, you should learn though because you don't want to have to ask your date to tie your tie when you take her out to a tie required event. That would be horribly mortifying.

For people to think this is classless, they would have to be up them selves and very nasty. Who cares! It is like looking down on someone because they are not good at physics. You can learn. But at the same time, since people are so judgemental, if I couldn't tie a tie, I certainly wouldn't want to admit this. If you can't tie a tie, get one of those ties with the plastic around the neck which are already tied. No one can tell the difference!

Not classless. This is something that can be learned in time.

I can sympathize with the poor folk who never get the opportunities to wear formal clothing, I am middle class at best myself, but what I am really getting at here is the idea that all human beings (mainly men here in this instance) should have a desire to experience many walks of life instead of just settling for thier own status quo. I cant imagine not wanting to at least be prepared for opportunities that come along that let you experience a different walk of life, a formal or a black tie affair where you will meet a different set of people than you are used to. Wanting to experience life to its fullest, or in this case to know how to tie a tie for the right occasion is a form of class. What kind of world would we have it all just put on there Im a normal Joe attire and never looked beyond it.

I'm afraid that I have never learned to do this. Well, being female, I don't get that many opportunities to try, and my husband rarely wears a tie, anyhow. He had several years of private school, anyway, so he knows full well how to tie it himself. Nevertheless, I'll get to learning how to do it one of these days.

How'd you like me to show you how to tie a NOOSE?
CastleBee 04/12/2005
Not a problem at all for me. However, while we're on the subject; what good are these things anyway - other than to make everyone wearing them look like a stiff? They look uncomfortable, are in many ways hazerdous and archaic. Loved best I would suspect based on the price by men's wear designers and merchants. I say rebel against them men of the new millenium! No more ties, no more ties!!!

This one's really picky. . .my grandfather worked in the mines his entire life and didn't own a tie- doesn't make him more or less classy.

Can you clip on class?
