There is really no reason to drink this stuff unless you really want to get a headache. It is harsh and gross. It is the reason I thought I really did not like tequila. It is the reason I drank really sugary margarita drink mixes to drown out the disgusting flavor. A few years ago, I bought a pitcher of margaritas with Cuervo because it was the cheapest and I regretted it instantly.
arsenaltequila 04/28/2009
Mixto, do I need to say anything else?
TJF 01/02/2009
This tequila is way over-hyped. I've taste tested this next to Sauza Gold (which is a few bucks cheaper) and it loses every time. Buy a lesser known tequila in the same price range and there's a 90% change it will be better than Jose Cuervo gold or silver. If you DO need to buy it, get the silver, it tastes better. Also, the Gold color and aged flavor in Cuervo gold is artificially added.
JuanM 02/11/2008
dont like me.
sturdyrob 01/03/2008
I used to drink this all the time until I found Don Valente's Tiquilito Gold.
Icymama 11/03/2007
I know, I know, silver tequila is all the rage and I suppose it is a bit smoother, but I'm a tequila girl and I know I can get this wherever I go AND it will always hit that spot! ummm ummm
SerpentSmasher 09/10/2007
waste of money. spend it on a better beer.
mattyk 07/02/2007
cheaply manufactured shit. if im buzzed already il go for it. otherwise where the hell is the cazadores???
Jackal1 07/25/2006
Smooth as silk. A great man`s drink. Does not go well with pink or extended pinkies.
jalisco1 06/17/2006
Sucks. If you are a college student with a limited budget and just want to get drunk, try stoli. This crap is to real tequila drinkers what mad dog is to wine lovers.
JVS 05/05/2006
You can smell the headache in the bottle.
Ms325i 03/25/2006
Not the most authentic or best Tequila around but its cheap enough and does the job. Decent enough to use in frozen 'ritas..plus everytime I use it I find myself singing the song "Hey Nineteen" by Steely Dan.."The Cuervo Gold, the fine Columbian..make tonite a wonderful thing...."
jtblueberry 02/15/2006
Perfect example of terrible tequila. No more than 51% de agave - 49% additives. Anyone who rates this more than 1 star must not know basic tequila information. Drink this if you want a hangover.
notbadnotbad 01/12/2006
Let's say you're a call girl. Ok, but let's say you're a call girl anyway. So. You want to impress your trick as someone worldly and experienced, but you're still at heart a 'rita drinker. What you'd want to order is one of these with Gran Marnier. It's a very good, 100% agave. It has a price to match. That is to say, it's a bit overpriced, but if it's good enough, why count pennies, honey? Me love you long time. Until the next morning when you wake up ashamed, of course. But that's tequila for you, innit mate?
Paul2505 08/21/2005
Made with the bare minimum amount of agave to be called tequila and coloured with caramel, as opposed to picking up real colour from barrel aging. It's crap, and it's still expensive.
Mike D 05/11/2005
I used to be a Cuervo gold drinker until I had a taste of the good stuff. Spend a few bucks more and not wake up thirsty in the middle of the night after drinking Cuervo. Lousy after taste and not even 100% agave....YUCK ! Never again
ckadams007 04/29/2005
Nasty taste!!! Like others have said, spend a few more bucks and get a good Tequila
Rex Terrana 03/23/2005
Rex says its Rexalent we sell alot of it at my bar!!!
jim9 02/21/2005
With all the premium 100% agave tequilas available in the US now, this best selling tequila here in the US is one of the worst. If you refuse to spend the money on a premium tequila, at least spend a little more than the cost of Cuervo Gold (Especial) and get one of the lower cost 100% agave tequilas (ie. Cuervo Tradicional, Cazadores). Note Cuervo Gold gets it's color from coloring additives and not from aging in barrels like the good stuff. Also being only 51% agave, the rest is sugar.
Mossy 09/23/2004
How can this possibly be ranked higher than Casadores? (Which isnt the best, but certainly better than this swill.) MAYBE ok for margaritas, but you dont want to use the good stuff in that cloyingly sweet concoction anyway! Yeah, Im a snob.
Dethchamber999 08/04/2004
I dont see what the big deal is. I was afraid to drink Tequila because of all the horror stories I have heard. So the first time I had Tequila was Jose Cuervo Gold. 4 shots...went down with no problem and 4 margaritas. Felt nice and good. I didnt have a hangover or headache at all. Am I drinking something different.
froggy10 03/18/2004
Yes, terrible. I don't even think there's any agave in here! Avoid at all costs, unless you enjoy a burning throat and a hangover.
UnoDosTres 02/24/2004
Awful.
DickWeener 01/01/2004
Good budget tequila, I myself prefer a higher end of booze, but for the money this stuff isn't bad at all I've had it a few times. I like it, but if I was buying a Tequila I would have to go with the 1800 black label cuervo, which cost around $44 a 5th, another good choice would be some Don Julio for roughly $39 a 5th.
cjose 06/02/2003
If you want to kill a friend get him a CUERVO, if you want to be cheap in a party buy Cuervo The only thing you can be sure of is that they are very consistent....only very bad tequila
kahfess 06/01/2003
One tequila, two tequila, three tequila, floor..as the saying goes. To much of this wonderful drink will make the floor jump up and hit you, but oh, what a wonderful drink you can have if you have Cuervo Gold as one of the ingredients. Margarita’s are wonderful made with this as the base. It’s a great tequila!
skinnyvinny 05/31/2003
Too rough, doesn't go down easily. I don't even know what it's made from.
lowrider 04/29/2003
it's not very good
Jason1972 03/11/2003
Too many bad hangovers to rate this one high, it's too rough of a drink to give it a good grade.
lloyd520 06/30/2002
Caca--Although available in Mexico, you rarely see Mexicans drinking it.
ichadwick 10/07/2001
Mixto stuff coloured with caramel, filled with additives. Simply awful.
faheymon 04/01/2001
Tequila rocks, and as far as tequila goes, this is it. People give it a bad rap because it smells like poop, but once you start throwing back some shots with some lemon and salt, it really helps loosen you up. A big hit with the ladies too, ya know? try it out
Brandon 12/17/2000
I don't like Cuervo because the taste is too strong. The smell of tequila is overpowering. The only time I can drink Cuervo is when it's in a mixed drink.
Cioman 12/17/2000
This is a fantastic all time drink that you can get messed up on. No one will get sick so you can always talk after Jose!
Mstull 12/17/2000
The first time I drank tequila was with Cuervo Gold. I was with a couple of buddies of mine and we drank a whole fifth of it. I got sick for two days after that. Ever since then, the slightest smell of tequila gets me ill.
Kaylove 12/16/2000
I enjoy the taste, but it could be a bit smoother going down. It mixes well with Cuervo Margarita mix(strawberry).
rcarrasco 12/16/2000
Mediocre tequila. Best for mixing. Does not go down smoothly for shots. Fairly common brand, so it proves good for parties (the Budweiser of tequilas).
squeeks 12/15/2000
Has a great flavor and does not seem to bother me as some other tequila's do. Seems to go down easy and is very pleasant to drink. Have fun with Cuervo is what I say. The only thing that beats gold is platinum, but I have not seen any yet.
Tacuiran_1 12/13/2000
A good drink. Tequila Poppers are good for parties. It really screws you up. I love tequila when there is a house party.
MacNess 12/13/2000
It goes down smoothly and gets people buzzed. When I'm bored I sneak it out of the medicine cabinet.
caliplayboy 12/12/2000
Jose Cuervo Gold in my opinion is one of the kings of tequila. Jose Cuervo makes a good tequila. The brand Jose Cuervo is a household name for anyone who is a tequila fan. You can't go wrong with Jose Cuervo Gold.
driek 12/11/2000
Tequila makes me think. Tequila gives me game. Tequila and blunts go good together. I take mine with salt and lime.
pazzara 11/22/2000
This is one of the best tequila's I've tried, but it is a bit heavy. It has too much alcohol. The taste is too concentrated. It can't be combined with anything. It leaves you with a terrible headache the next day.
mmorgan 11/17/2000
This tequila is good enough to drink straight, but I'd still use salt and a lemon. It goes down very smooth, and it would probably be a waste in mixed drinks because you wouldn't notice the flavor.
70Chevy 11/16/2000
I give this stuff a three because it tastes terrible. You always need it around, because girls love it and it gets them messed up. I like it in Margaritas and I'll take shots of it if I have lime and salt.
upchuck 09/19/2000
I have had several different brands, but I can only gag the stuff down as a Magarita...It really is a harsh tasting alcohol, but quite palatible mixed properly...Even more than most alcohol, tequilla too heavily consumed will make you take back stuff you didn't steal.
sperryc 08/16/2000
A few of these and you'll be golden too. har har har...
