Adventures of Ozzie & Harriet 4

Whaddya mean they couldn't act! They were themselves! A laid back easy listening style show that I wouldn't waste my time on today but a nice break from the worries of the end of the world from nuclear war. I always enjoyed the era when Ricky would play one of his popular or new songs at the end. That was the highlight of the show.

They must have been doing something right to have run for thirteen seasons. Just another old gem my satellite dish serves up. Reminds me of simpler, more innocent times.

Ricky was a great singer. Loved his songs at the end of each show. David was more the strong silent type and was very appealing as well.

The Nelsons were a bunch of ineffectual douchebags. Ricky could actually sing, but not a single member of the family could act. There was always a moral in every show, and it was about as subtle as a tennis racket to the face. God forbid anyone should actually have to think about anything, that we have to be bludgeoned over the head with these messages. It bespeaks an appalling contempt for the audience. I don't like television nowadays either, but this decade is where the whole television entertainment industry had its genesis. F*&@ Ozzie and Harriet.

Truly awful show mirroring the tastes (or lack thereof) in our primitive past. Ozzie was a pushy and obnoxious dickweed, Harriet seemed to be on tranquilizers most of the time and the boys were a couple of retards. The ideal American family!!! The worst aspect of this show was the flimsy premise it served when they successfully made the talentless Ricky a teenage heartthrob crooner. They'd rush through some brain-dead episode so that Ricky could plug one of his ersatz, colorless, testosterone-deficient attempts at snapping it. What dreck!!!

They were an interesting family to watch. Ozzie and Harriet maybe have been too good to be true as parents, but it was fun anyway.

What was good about the show was the Nelson family, not the show itself. They were just a decent, likeable family. The jokes and the plots were almost never funny. It was unbelievably mediocre. It started out as a radio program, some episodes of which I have on cassette tape. The radio show was actually funny. However, something went drastically wrong when they switched to television. It had to be different writers. But how could you not like Ozzie, Harriet, David and Ricky and the fact they were a real life family? It was as if they were our own friendly neighbors. This is what made the show watchable and such a good way to relieve stress.

While I am clearly a fan of clean, decent, family oriented shows, I am also a fan of reality shows. I prefer shows with some reality to complete and total unreality, and this show, like so many other sit coms in the 1950s, is pure unreality. These shows make my Full House look like The Simpsons. NO FAMILY IS THAT PERFECT ALL OF THE TIME!

Gee David, don't get sore! This family unreality show was perfect for its day but is pretty corny. It's probably what people wished life could be like. I think this is what happened after valium was invented. Rick was keen though and a lot of guys wished they were like him and a lot of girls wanted him, for a malted after school.

Before my time, but from what I saw Ozzie must have owned ABC to keep the lame show on for all those years.

If this wasn't THE worst TV show of the '50's it comes really close. While Ozzie may have been a decent bandleader in the 40's and Ricky could strum a guitar and sing fairly well, apparently nobody stopped to consider this important fact - not one member of the Nelson family could actually ACT! If Ricky hadn't become a teen idol, this one would have or at least should have been given the mercy killing it deserved much sooner.
