 | numbah16tdhaha (156) 06/21/2007 | To all the pointless slathering masses, take a bite before you add anything. This applies to most methods of culinary mayhem. Oh yeah, if you marinate the little sucker all day like me, that swill sauce becomes REAL uneccessary. UPDATE: All the steaks I have had with steak sauce on them were cooked by the Marines or the Navy. A1 is for bad steak. Oh yeah, nobody has ever put A1 on a steak I cooked. Beat that!

 | LadyJesusFan777 (39) 02/27/2007 | It depends on how the steak is cooked, and how long it's been marinated. Now, if you're talking about ketchup on a steak, I think that could be considered "low-class" in my books. Just my thoughts, though.

 | Enkidu (38) 02/26/2007 | I like to cook, and it drives me crazy when people throw extra
flavorings on things without even tasting them first.

 | Randyman (109) 02/26/2007 | I love a good medium rare steak, especially a New York or Porterhouse, and I do a fair job in broiling or grilling a steak, but I have to admit, from time to time, I don't mind a lttle steak sauce. I like the tanginess. I also like it topped with bleu cheese or grilled peppers, onions and mushrooms.

 | Mad Hatter (38) 02/26/2007 | At least try the steak before you alter it. I have yet to have a steak that needed steak sauce, and if I did, I would probably send it back.
UPDATE: A steak by numbah doesn't need A-1.

 | edt4 (110) 02/26/2007 | Depends on the steak, and what qualifies as "good". I heard this line as a kid whenever we had steak, but I liked the taste of A-1, and it was never a sure thing how good the steak we were having that night was going to be. As often as not, it would be tough and full of gristle. On those occasions, A-1 sauce was a godsend. Some years ago, I had a friend who made it big financially, qualifying as a multi-millionare. One night, I was out in NY with him and another guy and he decided he was going to treat us to a steak dinner at Sparks, the restaurant on the East Side of Manhattan where Mafia boss Paul Castellano was killed in 1985 on the orders of John Gotti (when my friend was poor like the rest of us, we used to eat at Tad's in Times Square, where you could get a "steak" for just a few dollars, along with a baked potato and a few beers, then go out and see a "horror movie" double-feature in one of the rat-infested theatres of the area). My friend ended up paying approximately $400 for the 3 of us (including appetizer), but you got what you paid for. The steak was half-a-foot thick, and there wasn't an ounce of excess fat on it. My knife cut through it like butter and it was absolutely delicious. I'm not necessarily a big fan of steak as a general rule (I'm perfectly content with a chicken breast or a pork chop), but to have put A-1 on that particular steak on that particular occasion would have been a desecration.

 | Vudija (98) 02/26/2007 | I'll atleast take a bite before adding anything to it. Try doing this at a fancy restaurant on Marco Island (in SW Florida) and the Chef might take a swing at you. They tend to be very agitated when it comes to critism.

 | souljunkie (21) 07/14/2005 | Those who were taught about such things (etiquette) know that it is considered bad manners to spice your food before tasting it. We all do it at home, that is the place where we do things exactly the way we want it, and that ok, But when you are someones guest or out this rule stands. Yes, classless.

 | singsplatsing (0) 05/13/2005 | My mom puts this stuff on her steak and it smells terrible. Like some other people said, I don't need steak sauce on my steak; steak with the right spices tastes perfectly fine without it.

 | texasyankee (22) 04/21/2005 | the only thing i like on my steak is salt and garlic. that's it, nothing else; nada, zip. My husband on the other hand, he takes everything in liquid form that's in the fridge and pours it on. If it's a round steak I don't care but if I pay for newyork strip or something of the like. hell no he better not touch it.

 | dpostoskie (7) 04/15/2005 | A-1 makes anything taste good and most places can't cook meat anyway.

 | kamylienne (80) 04/14/2005 | To each his own, of course. However, I always figure I'd give it a shot first before dumping any sauce/seasoning on food, though, especially as a courtesy to my host, if applicable. It's more important with certain things with others: if you're going to go over to a friend's place and they fix up some hot wings, their own stuff, it's just insulting to dump more sauce on the stuff before trying it out as served. And, as a general rule, I like to taste my steak as is, if it's any good. A1, though I love the stuff, is reserved for when it's a little overdone.

 | Molfan (60) 04/14/2005 | to each their own. I personally like steak sauce on my steak. I guess it is a matter of choice. i know some people like to put their sauce of choice on all kinds of food. such as catsup on macaroni and cheese. not lacking class just personal choice of taste.

 | CastleBee (85) 04/13/2005 | I love A1 sauce! However, I only get in the mood for it every now and then. When I do, it doesn't matter the grade of the steak - it's going on! Hey, I never claimed to be a Vanderbilt.
