Great team that plays with good hustle/energy. Amazing young talent. Will be contenders for a while.
lapresi 07/26/2007
They got Randy Johnson back...what were they thinking? He is too old already.
Supernatural IQ 03/25/2006
They're struggling right now. I see them picking up the pieces in a season or two and making their mark. Has a chance for instant success with a couple well-timed trades for the right 2 or 3 guys. Arizona is a team that may be pitiful now, but they will start to win again within 5 years. They can win this season, provided they make those two-three trades.
SUPER_NOVA 01/04/2006
the diamondbacks have made great addition to their roster with orlando hernandez and hudson

Riches (a Series defeat of the '01 Yankees by a still quite new expansion franchise) to rags again. They have some decent players, but have been stuck with a lot of bad contracts lately. Could be pretty good next year, as they play in what is arguably baseball's weakest division, though I doubt they'll win it.
dpostoskie 05/26/2005
Without Webb, Glaus and Gonzo the snakes would be sub 500. I feel bad for Troy, stuck in hell with no hope of winning anything. If they didn't have the best fielding team in baseball they'd be in the cellar with the Rocks.
Jar-Jar Binks 04/13/2005
I don't expect them to do well this year. Do you think Bob Melvin's the answer to turning this franchise into its winning ways? Yeah right. He certainly didn't do it in Seattle. ... Quit whining Diamondback fans! You've got a nice ballpark, you ended my beloved NY Yankees' dynasty, and in your 8th year of existence you've only witnessed 2 losing seasons! GET OVER IT!
drbowler 03/19/2005
I am shocked that a 51-111 team is ranked above the Astros.
momoftwoboys 03/18/2005
They made some effort by getting some big names this year like Shawn Green and Royce Clayton, but w/o Johnson this year, pitching is going to be a MAJOR issue! I am glad that we got Counsell back. As long as it goes a little better than the 2004 season, it will be an improvement.
Skizero 02/18/2005
not as bad as last season(2004), but i dont imagine this restructured team making a real run for it this season.
numbah16tdhaha 11/14/2004
They remind me of our old minor league team we used to have.

Yay for the home team. Now if management would stop selling off the club's best players....
giantsfan7102 05/26/2004
Steve Finely is just another Arizona Diamondback cry baby. waa waa says steve at last nights game against the giants. Steve... lets take away all the fans in those fan-friendly ballparks and then take a look at your bank roll. Arizona sucks!!!!!!!!!!
barfooz 12/29/2003
Go Diamondbacks
Datmartin 06/26/2003
THE BEST TEAM PERIOD!
Moosekarloff 06/04/2003
Hard to believe this team won it all a couple of years back. Adequate offense and in the field, have two excellent and one very decent starting pitcher, but really don't have enough to go all the way this year: too many other NL teams have improved. Should have a winning record in 2003 but probably won't make the playoffs.
tj92101 05/23/2003
Old, and getting older!!! Bye bye Curt!!!
marleyboy183 01/25/2003
suck!YANKEES are better!

The Yankees aren't the only team that can buy a championship
laotzu 11/12/2002
Diamondbacks? Please...that's some sorry ass sh1t
lukskywlkr. 11/07/2002
They didn't repeat but they did get all the way back to the playoffs. Not too many teams can do that lately.
Jason1972 10/31/2002
Without Gonzales, Grace, Johnson, Schilling, and Finley, these guys would be a 2 star team.
Damifino 07/07/2002
Any team with the one-two punch of Johnson and Schilling deserves to win a lot. I was VERY happy to see them take down the Yankees in '01, and do it with class and style. It's a few months late, I know, but congrats D'Backs! If you meet the Yanks in the October Classic in '02, how about a repeat performance?
Solenoid DH 07/01/2002
What a joy it was to see them win against the Yanks in the '01 World Series. It tickled me to death to see the Press lose that one...they were all pulling for New York. Besides stopping the Yankees, I also like them because Curt Shilling used to pitch for my favorite team, the Phillies, and never got a World Series ring. I'm glad he has one now.
Rusty 04/12/2002
They have pitching. They got lucky, my friends.
Davis21Wylie 03/02/2002
They are still a contender, but they really did nothing this offsesason to get better... Craig Counsell really came on in the playoffs last year as a player, but he was always a good leader, a glue guy for the team... What I have to wonder is, which is the real Tony Womack? The one that was awful in the first half or the second-half version that hit .327?... Luis Gonzalez is among the top 5 offensive players in baseball, hands down; the guy hits for average and power, he's selective up there, his only shortcomings are a lack of speed and a really weak arm... The 1-2 punch of Johnson and Schilling is as good as we've seen on any staff in the last 10 years, including Atlanta.
ellajedlicka21 12/27/2001
I absolutely abhor the Diamondbacks. However, I have to give them credit for beating the Yankees to win their first World Series in their brief, brief history. It is obvious that Kim choked under pressure and they need a closer with composure that can withstand the pressure of the world series. I credit them, but still loathe them. They're obviously a good team.
counsellgirl 12/20/2001
They kicked Yankee ass, nuff said.

I'd like to see what nyatheart has to say now...what a dumbass. :)

I've been a Yankee fan for about 27years now and moved to Phoenix about four years ago. I went to BOB to watch a game of course I did not pay for the tickets they were given to me. Half of the people there were not enough paying attention to the game they were to busy trying to impress their business partners. You just don't buy a team you buy a mixture of vets and some rookies you bring up from your own system and hope they gel into a champion team. You also have to support of your team, when BOB was first built everyone came out to see them but the honeymoon is over and Bob Brenly sure isn't going to get the job done. PS. SI Mag. just vote Phoenix one of the worst five cities for sports in the country, sorry baseball fans it not to late to jump on the New York Yankees bandwagon..ha-ha

A lot of players had career years for the Dbacks last year so this years expectations should be tempered a little bit. I dont think the Dbacks can duplicate the 100(100-62)plateu but will come close. Of all the players Travis Lee looks to be the player who couldnt possibly play worse than last year. Expect Bell, Gonzo and Matty to play a little worse or fall back to their norm. Of all the teams in the west it looks like the Dodgers have made the moves to challange Arizona.

Money is the key to baseball, along with proper management. The Braves are great. The Diamondbacks went on a spending spree. Lets see how long until the 'back(s) breaks.
