Parking meters, show-offs, high prices contend with decent skiing. There are better choices.

Aspen is a nice mountain town, but definitely more a place to see and be seen than to ski. Lift tickets are way too pricey, and the town is pricey as well. Go to Aspen in the summer for the gorgeous scenery and surrounding towns -- go elsewhere to ski or board.

I think that Aspen sucks. Its packed with a bunch of rich tourists who can barely get down the mountain. It was one of the worst experiences of my life

Aspen is America's ultimate Euro/Arabo/AsioTrash destination and the place where The Donald met Marla ('nuff said). If you want to hang with the richest of the rich (or maybe have Tropy Spouse as your life's ambition) this is the place for you. Most of the best party scenes are by membership (Caribou Club) or invitation only. The ski/slide areas are run by the Aspen Ski Co, owned by the Crown Family from Chicago - folks who can't seem to get it together to offer direct-to-lift access on their affinity card; something everyone else in the industry seems to be able to manage. Aspen Mountain (known as Ajax) is small, poorly laid out, poorly signed and really not worth the trip. The Highlands has some killer skiing and Snowmass is one of America's gems. Worth coming to if you stay and ski/slide in Snowmass (about 5 miles down the road from the town). So if daddy's paying (and you don't really care about your on-the-snow experience), and daddy happens to be Bill Gates this is the place for you. For the rest of us....Ski the Summit.
