Yes, there is a redneck element up there during Spring Break, but Destin Beach is one of the best I've been to, at least here in the US. Powdery white sand beaches made from bits of quartz and very clear water makes it a very solid beach destination. Most of Walton County's beaches are very nice, but Destin and Seaside have nicer amenities.

If your are looking for a spring break destination look elsewhere. Spiral perms and high hair from the 80's is all you will see as far as the girls go, and guys dipping snuff and spitting everywhere during the month of march..If you go in July it's completly different. The beaches themselves are beautiful and the water is sparkling blue/green. There is a huge shopping outlet mall not too far either..If you can avoid spring break from late feb to early April will make all the difference in the world.

A great beach, in fact I'm here staying at the SanDestin Resort right now as I write. The sand is powdery white. I'm staying in a condo right on the water. The first day I arrived there was a strong front moving though the area so the red flags flew on the beach indicating rough seas and a dangerous under current.  Now the beach is calm. I like the Sarasota area better but Destin is in the top 10 of places I have visited.

I grew up in Destin up until I was 22. I'm currently living in the Fort Lauderdale area and nothing could compare to the beach I grew up with.Yes the worse time to go is March and the begining of April because the College "redneck" spring breakers. Any other time would be the best time; enjoy your vacation and don't forget to take some sand home with you.

Both times I've been there I absolutely loved it. Clean, white beaches and beautiful green water. And the shops and restaurants there are top notch.

Given the clientele that comes to Destin Beach, this beach is shockingly beautiful when clean. White powder sand beaches set against the calm clear waters of the Gulf. If you are lucky you will see porpoises jumping out of the water. Unless you are looking for redneck spring break central, don't come here during March or April.

I recently went to Destin and had a wonderful time. The beach was beautiful unlike Venice Beach.
