Far from the worst incident in history. Pretty much an example of old-school hard-nosed baseball. Got a little more play because it happened in the All Star game, which is usually a little more low key, and Rose and Fosse were friends. Don't stand on the track when the train's coming, Ray.

I dislike Rose, but although it was an All Star game and those didn't count for much beyond bragging rights back then, I can't really fault the guy for this. After all, the object of any game is to win. Fosse was a promising young catcher for Cleveland then, and having a very good year in '70, but he wasn't the same again, and was never more than a part timer/ pinch hitter/ bench guy with the Indians, A's, and Brewers until the late 70's.

Explains why Ray Fosse is now a hapless telecaster for the Oakland Athletics.

To add to the irony, Fosse and Rose were friends off the field, often going to dinner together with their wives. Rose scored on the play, I believe in the 12th inning, winning the game for the National League, part of the streak of dominance they enjoyed during the late 1960's and 1970's.
