Monday, who was sort of a jack of all trades but master of none who had a solid but somewhat disappointing career gained a measure of fame for this. I was only about 5 when it happened, so I missed it. When people aren't sleeping, leaving, or comparing Hawaiian shirts with each other, some interesting stuff can happen there-like this, and also I read somewhere that Peter Cetera of Chicago was attending a Cubs- Dodgers game and got beat up way back in 1969 by Marine hooligans. While I really don't condone the beating by a gang of anyone, the Marines must have had a crystal ball to look into and saw all of Cetera's post 1971 music...

I'm giving this a 3 because if I gave it a 5, it would been one of the worst baseball moments. In my opinion, I think what Rick Monday did was symbolic. It wasn't a great moment and it wasn't a worst moment. It was just symbolic for him to do that. Americans love the American Flag.

I think Monday was playing center-field and between innings these two hippies dragged a big flag out into short left-center field, if I recall. Their lighter didn't ignite and they kept trying to light the corner of the flag. Monday swooped in from behind them and snatched the flag out of their hands. They were stunned as Monday jogged up to a security guy and handed him the flag. I believe Monday was serving in the Marine Reserves at the time.
