There's no agenda. They are minding their own business and wish that everyone else would do the same. Who has time to sit down and write out an agenda when Dancing with the Stars is down to the final four anyway? FAB-ulous!

I get why this is a big issue. I have been straight for as long as I can remember. If things were in reverse, and someone told me and some other folks that we couldn't marry women, that's something I would fight for. All the other people who traditionally have married same-sex parters would look differently upon us, out of fear, or anger, or are just opposed to change for whatever reason. Or for a hundred other reasons. But we would fight it, and it would be a big story because it's re-writing the books, it's innovative. Those stories make headlines. Since we haven't gotten our way for years, it's still in the limelight, and it remains an issue, and until we get the rest of the country to at least give us the same rights that they do, then we won't just go away and be quiet.

The only "homosexual agenda" is the agenda of today's politicians to attach themselves to such trains as the pro-gay marriage train and the anti-deportation train in an attempt to look politically correct, which is the order of the day, it seems... Although I do not oppose gay marriage, I agree with the sentiments I have heard Genghis express on the site about the 'dominance' of the more vocal pro-gays. The latest 'trend' in the people has been the 'So what?' factor of the neo-hippy pro-individualism movement. It's now 'cool to be square'. Because of the rise of liberal thinking in the western world, it is now 'hip' to defend the minorities, and to be different. The problem with this is that some people, seeking to fit in, now try to make themselves part of the minority, and one way of doing this is pretending to change sexuality in order to become the minority (of course, they don't pretend to be gay as they do not want to lose the ability to partake in heterosexual relationships, but they do pretend to be bisexual). In order to satisfy their attention cravings, these people often shout out about how they are 'persecuted' for being 'different', when, actually, no such thing ever occurred. This has affected the political mindset of the west, and the old mindset of pro-conformity has been washed away, and it is now extremely bad press to be seen partaking in anything that is not politically correct. This means that politicians will succumb to gay demands in order to be seen by the public as politically correct. This means that the minority groups will have the government under their thumb, and also they will have some degree of power over the common people. (For example, a gay person does not get selected out of numerous candidates to obtain a job because there was a more suitable or competent person who also applied is able to accuse his or her potential employer of homophobia, i.e. they did not give the applicant the job because that applicant was a homosexual, rather than the true reason that the applicant just wasn't good enough.) This is the dominance of which Genghis spoke. This drive and obsession with being seen as politically correct is becoming a real blight on our society, as in striving to cover and repent for old injustices committed by our more discriminating forefathers, they are in fact committing a whole set of new injustices. The problem with not allowing gay marriage, however, is another layer to the mix. On the one hand, it may make the pro-PC crusaders back off a bit, but on the other (more likely) hand, it will just encourage them further to campaign against the "injustices" and "bigotry" committed by a "fascist and discriminating society". The problem will not end with legalization of gay marriage...

If you're so worry about the homosexual agenda, I suggest that you move to Iran. The weather is nice and there are no gays there.

As long as nobody whips it out at me, I could care less. I don't really buy into the idea of an "agenda" where the horrible gays are going to abolish the constitution and brainwash the world into being gay, either. Some people need a deep breath or two...

Either that or we lose much more than our freedom of expression. When a minuscule minority become strong enough as to over rule the great majority, then we are way on our way to tyranny.

I agree with this statement. I shall agree with tolerance, but strongly disagree with approval and now the homosexual agenda is moving towards dominance.
Victor83 03/01/2007
I did not contribute this, so I could be wrong; but I don't think the "agenda" means that all homosexuals have one. In fact, I will go so far as to say that I believe most don't. However, as with most groups or interests, there is a political movement afoot where this lifestyle is concerned. To deny that is ridiculous. Many of the same people who would swallow their tongue while having a seizure if creationism were taught in public schools want homosexuality to have a forum in those same schools- i.e., books such as "So-and-so Has Two Mommies", etc. This is an example of that agenda. So, please, don't say it doesn't exist. Thank you.
LastMessenger3 03/01/2007
Would you feel the same if you were on the other side of the table?!
al3conn3r 12/19/2006
Their only "agenda" is life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Why should anyone have the right to deny them that?
blue47 12/19/2006
oh i doubt they have an agenda. no more than any other group, other than worring about how to get three hots and a cot!
VirileVagabond 12/15/2006
~Deep Breath~ Okay, if I were rating the "agenda" argument based on effectiveness, I would rate higher (perhaps 3 stars), as terms like "pro choice", "pro life", and "agenda" are chosen intentionally for effective connotation. Who wouldn't be for choices and life and who wouldn't be against some nefarious "agenda"? Nevertheless, the logical merits of the argument alone simply presume that the homosexual marriages and other "rights" are bad for society, and such naked (i.e. unsupported) presumptions have no weight by definition. With that said, I'm continued to be surprised by all the "equal protection" and "equal rights" rants that I repeatedly read on this issue. As I've stated and exampled elsewhere, this is simply not an equal rights issue, but rather an accepted or not accepted preference issue. Moreover, it's my understanding that the recent tax code changes to eliminate the "marriage penalty" resulted in the largest revenue loss of all the tax revisions. This means that legalizing gay marriages/unions has very real public finance ramifications (hence the public has standing to say yea of nay). Moreover, the "forcing morals" arguments I've read in this thread are equally without merit, as (for example) society has forced their morality on me if I was inclined to kick my dog silly due to animal cruelty laws. The bottom line is that a) while this argument may be politically effective, it has no real merit alone and b) I again suggest that everyone realize that these homosexual issues are not can/can't questions (i.e. constitutional) but rather should/shouldn't questions (i.e. legislative public policy).
LanceRoxas 10/26/2006
James Madison wrote quite eloquently in federalist #10 about threat of factionalism, to him, greatest threat to liberal democracy. I note this with regard to the gay marriage ruling in my home state of New Jersey yesterday. A radical faction seeking to redefine the legal definition of a natural and traditional institution upon an anarchic individualist conceptualization of "liberty" is truly nothing short of soft-tyranny. Nature's Law prescribes the virtues upon which our traditions have developed- not 5 jurists who diminish, through rulings such as these- the essence of true human freedom. Not only that, the usurpation of authority through judicial activism reduces the "public will" to "public suggestion" and makes a mockery of the term liberal "democracy". A more apt definition of this constitutional order would be Rule by Liberal Junta. It will not be long until the redefinition will also include other "alternatives" to which the public will be told to accept in the name of "inclusion". It makes one laugh when in light of the first principles of classical liberalism: self government for prevention of tyranny. Now we have factional minorities imposing their will on the majorities through powerful lobbies and the high mindedness from an unelected branch. Nothing could be less liberal.

I guess in the USA to prove yourself that you are a 'Real American' you must; Pollute the envirionment with huge gas guzzling trucks or SUV's without consideration to future generations. Agree that the governemnt has to be in your bedroom-while saying that government should not be responsible for health care, high drugs costs, curbing corporate abuses, and regulating safety in food production, big polluters, giving huge tax cuts to the corporations and ultra wealthy. Making moral judgements on gay people, sayin the 'bible' says marraige is between a man and a women- well man wrote the bible- and he was 'inspired by God?" right- nope- there is NO scientific or historical proof of this silly assertion. These so called 'moralists' preaching to us about the evils of gay people are at best uninformed, and at worst ignorant hypocrits.

I feel as many others do; man should be treated equal and be given equal rights. That is, to the point that it can be detrimental to society. If we allow the 'gay' agenda to push its way to marriage, from then on we will not be able to stop anything others push for. If you think of it literally, as I've said before, doing this would not be granting them the equal right of marriage. It would be granting them the extra. If we grant them the extra, it would be a call around the US of A that if you want something bad enough, all you have to do is scream unequal and you'll have it. Another problem I have is the fact that once we give homosexuals the right of marriage, there is nothing to stop them from pushing for children. It's obvious that the differences between men and women goes far beyond just anatomy. So I feel it is essential for a child to be nurtured by parents of both sexes if a child is to learn to function in a society made up of both sexes. UPDATE: Jade, what you are suggesting is ridiculous. You are contradictory to yourself. Just because you aren't naturally inclined to like something, doesn't mean you can't fix it. Take suicide for example. To some people, inside of them its just so much easier to kill themselves. Yet, not everyone does it, why? Because they overcame their own problem! You can hate something, but if you work at it, you can train yourself to not only tolerate but enjoy it. I have read countless studies that make feeble attempts to prove there is what your suggesting, a 'gay gene'; what you need to ask yourself is: is it natural? Of COURSE NOT! Whens the last time you saw a male zebra mate with another male zebra? You didn't! If you did, then where the heck did all the zebras come from? My friend, you can be no more born Gay than you can be born an Atheist or Christian. No one, and I repeat, NO ONE is born with learned behaviors. Everything you do in this life, you learn from experierence; gays are not born.
jadeddiva 11/13/2005
UPDATE: heykate, it is your right to practice your religion, but you have no right to force your religious morals on me. That is what denying gay marriage does. My ability to marry a woman will, in no way, affect your rights as a Christian. I could really care less if you accept my marriage to a woman; I want the government to recognize it. Why? So that I can have the same rights, priveledges and protections that heterosexual married couples take for granted. No one will be able to marry a dog, because a dog cannot sign a contract. No one can marry a minor because they cannot sign a contract. The slippery slope argument is just another excuse to segregate gay people and associate them with deviants to make the opposition sound more convincing. **Gay marriage has been legal in MA for a year, now, and there haven't been any resulting movements for incest, polygamy and bestiality. And for those of you who think it's just gross...I think brussel sprouts are disgusting; it doesn't make it wrong. **Now that's something to think about. I don't think that we should be afraid of the homosexual agenda (which is to get equal rights); I think we should be afraid of the Christian agenda. Good point, Redoedo! **The point is that it shouldn't HAVE TO BE treated or changed. I knew a woman who was a lesbian, but also a Christian. Due to her beliefs, she gave up her lifestyle and a partner that loved her very much. For this, she was miserable, and it didn't change a thing. She was still very attracted to women, but she simply ignored this and married a man. To ask someone to change just because YOU think it's unnatural is wrong and the opposite of freedom. The day this country passes a law to make gay marriage illegal is the day this country stops being free.** I understand what you're saying. Your argument is a classic Nature vs. Nurture. I know many different gay people who were raised in a usual mother/father family. In contrast, I know many heterosexual people who were raised by a same sex couple. In a recent college course, I learned that homosexuals have different brain chemistry than that of a heterosexual brain. I say again, no matter how one is raised, one cannot CHOOSE what they like, what they hate, or whom they are attracted to. It is something that is discovered as one matures. Regardless of whether they learned it or if it was genetic, one cannot simply change what they like; to do that creates inner turmoil and a horrible self esteem. Do you like broccoli? If you do, choose to MAKE yourself hate it. You could grow up on a potato farm and come to hate potatos. As long as it doesn't hurt anyone or interfere with a persons rights, what you like and don't like should not have to be fixed. **In response to PBeavr, gay people do NOT choose to be gay. You can't help it if you like something. When one denies what one feels, THAT'S where the deviance comes in. As for the Agenda, ??? What agenda? Equal rights? Abolishment of prejudice and fear? Where do I sign up? UPDATE: PBeavr, if what you say is true, then I want you to choose to be attracted to someone. Can you do that? I don't know anyone who can. You are correct about one thing, though: Gay people DO want to be left alone. Sexuality shouldn't have to be a political issue, but, unfortunately, because gay people are denied the basic right to marry the person they love. The few people brave enough to stand up for those rights are called activists. The agenda is for gay people to have their basic American rights., and if this agenda has to be stopped, then this country stops being a free country.
CanadaSucks 11/13/2005
Boy, you alleged pro-freedom, pro-America types really start quaking in your boots when the d#ck-suckers want nothing more than to live in the America that you enjoy. . .What agenda? All I see is them taking a PR beating by a public fooled by the idea that they have to be 'protected' from them. The only 'agenda' I'm noticing is the decreasing amounts of freedoms in our culture that should be the reason for complete outrage. You're either for freedom or against it- pick a side. The sexual activity between two consenting adults behind closed doors has no bearing on your life- if you believe otherwise then move to a nation where religious dogma dictates policy. . .how about Afghanistan under the Taliban?
Gentle Jude 11/12/2005
UPDATE: With the overwhelming number of unhelpfuls, I must have hit a real nerve, I must of said something right! ORIGINAL: Homosexuals have an agenda to a point. Their agenda is not to go around making people gay or to fall in love with as many people as they want. Their agenda is to get freedom and to be accepted as a normal part of society, and for people to not feel ashamed about being gay, and to understand what it is to be gay and how to have gay intercourse in a safe way. That's probably why they want to change school curriculums. Although they are not out there to convert people, I still think their agenda should be stopped because it is revolting and disgusting. Basically their agenda is to brain wash people into thinking that this type of sin is now OK and actually good. It is not good and never will be good. I hope that gay marriage never gets accepted because it would be a victory for gay people. Once they have gay marriage, then they will push for more. As far as the law is concerned, we should make homosexuality illegal again. It is illegal and considered disgusting by the community to marry your eg sister. So if that is wrong, why is homosexuality so much accepted, and that is just as dirty and unnatural?
mike_igh 11/03/2005
what is this so called homosexuual agenda? we dont want to recruit your children... after living trough the pain of growing up gay in a homophobic household/community. I did not want to be gay. I could never ask anyone to go through the hell that I went through. we don't want to take over, we just want to be afforded the same rights as our straight friends & neighbors we are not trying to destroy the sanctity of marriage, in fact, leagalizing same sex marriage would allow parents to instil in ALL of their children the importance of marriage in our society. no matter what no one can stop same sex marriages from happening on september 22nd I married my partner in a chritian ceramony, same sex marriages will continue to happen. the real issue is legal rights. leagalizing gay marriage has no effect on anyone elses relationship I know that there are always going to be people who think homosexuals have an agenda. it stems from FEAR so ask yourself what is it that you fear??? and be rational.
percivale 11/03/2005
There are a lot of agendas in this country, and I would challenge anyone who claims that there is a "homosexual agenda" to provide a bullet point list of issues which are consistently sought by a majority of the gay community, other than a respect of basic civil rights that are supposed to be afforded to ALL citizens anyway. I am a gay man. My "agenda" is to see that ALL citizens, not just the straight ones, and not just the gay ones either, are treated equally under the law. If you find that agenda to distasteful, then I would question your belief in the American ideal of "liberty and justice for all." percivale

The Homosexual Agenda is to be treated like people. Kind of like women and blacks with feminism and civil rights. (Bone up on the history of interracial marriage-- interesting similarities to today's issue).

Does anyone else realize that the fundamentalists who whine about the "homosexual agenda" have an agenda themselves? What needs to be stopped is the fundamentalist agenda.

The religious right's agenda needs to be stopped. The Socialists agenda needs to be stopped. The basketweavers' agenda needs to be stopped. Remember the principals on which the US is based (and other countries, too).

I have to echo some of the others on this page...what exactly is a Homosexual Agenda? Sounds sort of like the Russians when they were disseminating the Protocols of the Elders of Zion and blaming every societal ill on a Jewish conspiracy. Gay marriage is now the red-herring being used to keep the American people from focusing on their very real problems. If it wasn't gay marriage, it would be some other non-issue. With all due respect, Souljunkie...(and you might want to avert your head, cause this may cause you to hurl)...the psychiatric community stopped defining homosexuality as a mental illness way back in 1973. I don't know that I've met a completely well-balanced person period, whether gay or straight. Whether you're secure in your sexuality or not is beyond the scope of my knowledge, or my interest, but all gays essentially are asking for is basic human dignity and rights, just like anyone else. Why is that so threatening to so many people? A gay person may get respect from you personally, but they don't get the same respect from society, or the culture, or the government. You don't need to encourage that life because it will go on regardless. What help would you propose getting them? You imply they're somehow gay because they were exposed to something, which is nonsense. If you don't like gays, that's your business, but we should all as a society stop wasting time and money pretending that they can somehow be eliminated or cured (Christian counseling is seriously being proposed by some misguided individuals) and that they're responsible for the variety of evils that plague the society. If only we could expend such passion and energy in curing poverty as we do on something like gay marriage. If you want to know the truth, I don't hang out with any gays (at least none that I know of) but they've never bothered me or tried to disrupt or infringe on my life, unlike some of my fellow heterosexuals, so why should I care what they do, if they're not hurting anybody?
souljunkie 09/15/2005
We need to stop just accepting it and get these folks some help. I dont believe Ive ever known a completely well balanced gay person. They are all victims of something they should not have been exposed to.***If I hear one more fool lend to the ole' insecure about your sexuality or those who aren't joining the give the gays all they want or your a homophobe thing Im gonna HURL! Lets at least try and keep it at the grown ups table please. I dont support the gay agenda, views, lifestyle or anything else and I know exactly who I am and Im very sure Im heterosexual. A gay person gets the same respect from me as would anyone else. I just will not be one to encourage that way of life or anything about it. Im sure all who support them are not gay, so lets get off that horse.
scarletfeather 09/14/2005
What is their agenda, really? It seems they want equal protection under the law, and perhaps hope that people will at least tolerate their lifestyle, instead of viciously harassing them . I have had a lot of gay friends, and none of them seemed to have a particular agenda and they never tried to recruit folks to join their ranks.
Andrew Spencer 09/14/2005
Why? The only explanation for this argument is that it is made by someone who is unsure of his or her sexuality and fears that he or she may be converted. I don't care about the homosexual agenda because it can't do anything to me.
Daccory 08/02/2005
Pray what is the agenda? Fair and equal considerations for all people? Terrible stuff. To turn us all into homosexuals? Yup! See what nonsense that is?
Redoedo 06/13/2005
Some could argue that the Christian agenda is in equal need of a breather.
Djahuti 04/21/2005
Homophobes are always whining about gays wanting special priveleges, but as far as I can tell, they just want to be treated like all other citizens. If that's their agenda,I'm all for it.I believe in Liberty and Justice-FOR ALL. !

It needs to be stopped at all costs. Homosexuals are (sic).
mattg 04/19/2005
As far as I can tell, the homosexual agenda is simply not to be persecuted or discriminated against, and to have the same rights, protections, and priveleges in society as everyone else. GO HOMOSEXUAL AGENDA!!
EschewObfuscat ion 04/18/2005
I would characterize the gay agenda as an attempt to legitimatize behavior which has historically been characterized as deviant, according to a system of laws based upon historical, social mores. Most of the present-day mainstream news media outlets are complicit in the effort because they convey an insidious leftward slant, which includes tolerance for gay attitudes and behavior. Because conservatives tend to identify acceptance of gay/homosexual behavior as detrimental to society in general, they believe that changing laws to accommodate their lifestyle is likely to lead to changes in laws and statutes accommodating more extreme lifestyles and behaviors. Most conservatives, whom I know, do not hate gay people. It is difficult in America, to exist without knowing of and interacting with gay men and women on a daily basis. Today, there are certainly more young people professing to be gay many of whom seem to me to be too young to know what their sexual orientation is, but their choice (or manifested inborn tendencies) are accepted more today than 20 years ago. So, in that way, the gay agenda has been successful. Many parents today, particularly parents of young girls (15, 16, 17) deal with their daughters' girlfriends in a way not previously acknowledged. Whether they stay that way remains to be seen. Young gay men (and boys) are less common until they reach at least college age, in my experience. Parents today seem to be much more accommodating than those of my father's generation to accept the homosexuality of their sons. Parents of young children today will fight this battle more than I had to.
emj5687 04/18/2005
oh no! they'll use their gay agenda and take over the world! *update give me a break, there are gay shows on tv, so what? you named two shows with gay characters, how many are there with straight characters? i hardly think hollywood is pushing a gay agenda.
Mad Hatter 04/18/2005
To have the same freedom to marry and be happy as straight people. A horrible agenda. It has to be stopped. HELLO, PEOPLE!!! Is everyone so closed minded that they can't see that this is about rights, which is what the United States is supposed to be founded on? TO SOULJUNKIE: Since we is being gay a diease?
jakemr33 04/15/2005
ya America is founded upon rights, but wouldn't you agree there are good and bad rights? that there ARE absolute rights and wrongs
magellan 04/15/2005
I hear this one a lot, and I'll admit, the use of the word agenda does sound kind of scary. It brings to mind things like being forced to march in flamboyant gay pride parades, or being forced into homosexual acts against your will. I'm certainly against that agenda. I guess I would be somewhat less against the idea of equal protection under the law for gay, tax-paying Americans however. Overall, I'm confused as to what the agenda is in the catch phrase homosexual agenda.
