Quite possibly a symptom of mental illness, rather than a "class" issue.

I take a shower daily and it feels good to be clean. As good as it feels to be clean, who wants to go dirty and make other people uncomfortable too?!?

It can be very disagreeable to be next to someone who has not bathed for a long time. Soap does not cost that much and it does not take that long to take a quick shower. It can actually turn someone elses stomach to be stuck next to someone who has not bothered to shower for days on end. and i have been next to those people. it makes me wonder what is going on in their mind to not want to take the effort of bathing. I would not say that everyone who smells is classless. For some it could be a red flag. For example if an eldery person who used to be emmaculate about being clean now smells and looks dishevled, It would be a concern.

I can understand that there are some people without access to a shower that wouldn't be able to help this. However, for the majority of us who do have a working shower, I'd hope that we'd use it. For some of the people I know, not showering was a sign of serious depression and/or medical condition (like brain tumor). If you notice someone who suddenly goes from showering regularly to not showering at all, I'd suggest checking for other signs of depression.

Although you shouldn't judge and criticise, or think less of a person who does this, this is a classless thing to do. This can actually be unhygienic because if they try on new clothes at a shop, they could spread disease like that. It is gross and smells gross and it really puts me off my food when I smell someone like that. The reason why I look down on this a bit more (not the person, just the act of not being clean) is the fact that this can be helped. All as they need to do is have a shower which will only take ten minutes, wash their hair and they will be fine. BO in itself can't really be helped as much, but even then you can still ware deodorant or perfume (if you are a woman). This isn't classless eg for people who may live in third world countries or for really poor people who may not even be fortunate enough to own a shower or pay for water. It is only classless for people who do own a shower and hot watering system and can pay for water and deodorants.

You may not have new clothes or even clothes that are not free from holes but you don't have to be dirty.
