I have dove in Cozumel 4 times and is the best diving I have experienced. 100+ feet visibility and beautiful coral. It was beaten up pretty badly in 2005 from the hurricanes but has recovered well. For the experienced divers you should dive with Living Underwater or Aldora. Both cater to small groups (6 packs) so you don't get stuck on boats with 20+ people.

I just got back from Cozumel on April 12, Great dives on Columbia reef. Turtles and coral heads rising 40 feet off the bottom. Incredible dives and tons of fish. Went out with Emundo with Cha Cha Cha diving. I highly recommend them. Small boats and small parties and the owner loves diving and showing Cozumel off.

I recently stayed at the hotel flamingo in cozumel and was presently surprised. It had been over 8 years since I had stayed there last and I was amazed with all of the changes to the property. A new owner has taken over and improved all the rooms and it now has a bar and a full restaurant. The food was excellent with the mango shrimp being my favorite. The service was top notch and the staff was very friendly. They also had internet service available and laundry service which was nice. It is downtown on a quiet street near the waterfront. I understand from the management that they are in the process of upgrading the rooms more to a 3 or 4 star rating and that a pool will be going in later in the year. I was very happy overall with the stay.

Cozumel is incredibly over-tourized, but the diving is underated. Before leaving for Cozumel I was told by dozens of people that this was not an ideal diving spot -- boy were they wrong. The visibility was as good as I've had three days in a row, and the fish and coral and mmarine life in general were great. But beware, even the dive shops cater to tourists -- some are a bit thick on the cheese.

Great scuba - but getting a bit commercialized like Cancun.
