Personally, I really hate vodka, hah. However, it's cheap, and it mixes well, so that's why I buy it. I've had several brands now, and while I won't get into the bottom shelf (Smirnoff, etc.) vs. high-end (Grey Goose, etc.) debate, I will say that Smirnoff is, in my opinion, by far one of the best cheaper vodkas you can get - actually, it's very decent alcohol in general (their flavoured bottles are pretty good, too). And really, despite what many liquor snobs will try and tell you, if you're mixing it, in most situations, you won't be able to tell the difference. As far as drinking it straight, I think that Smirnoff goes down a lot better than most vodkas, and I find the aftertaste to be less horrifying, lol. I've never gotten a bad hangover off of Smirnoff, either, so no worries with that. Basically, Smirnoff, according to me and many others I've talked to, can make somebody who hates vodka suffer it down without much complaint, so it must be doing something right, hahah. Sure, ther... At one point I would drink a liter of this a night to make myself sleep, and several times that much with everything else I could find to make myself vomit. This stuff is thoroughly disgusting, and now I wouldn't use it as paint thinner.

Vodka snobs are totally insufferable. I drink vodka regularly, straight up with a splash and quite frankly, for the price, Smirnoff is very good. I keep my vodka in the freezer and only drink it very chilled (unless I'm at a bar). I've tasted practically every vodka there is, except for some exotic stuff, and Smirnoff stands up. It may not be cool to like Smirnoff, but it is a good basic, non pretentious drink.

This tastes like anti-freeze smells. Personally, I drink vodka in shots near frozen, (when I'm with some Russian acquaintances) or mixed with Rose's, ice and soda. In either case quality of vodka makes a difference. And this panther arse sweat isn't quality.

Mixed with orange juice this is okay, I prefer absulate over this but only slightly. It seems just 2 drinks of this stuff makes me loose my sh*t( not literally),so I tend to stay away from liquer in general.

This is the stuff you mix with red bull and OJ. Never drink this straight. I used to drink the Rasberry flavor back in my younger days. After trying many many vodka's, this is not one id ever have in my house no matter what my budget is. I know of a few vodka's that blow Smirnoff away in taste and smoothness and their even cheaper! It's not terrible but it's not ok either.

Mixed with soda or juice it's great as any mediocre vodka can be. As with any vodka, drinking it by itself is pretty nasty. That's the joy of vodka, by itself it's nasty, mixed with flavor you can hardly taste it. Smirnoff is a brand that is affordable and easy to drink. It's the bridge between mediocre and bad. But to be honest, even the most expensive vodka tastes as good in soda as Smirnoff so might as well save your pennies (especially in this economy) and go the Smirnoff way.

It has been 35 years since I have drank any Vodka. It just happened to be Smirnoff. I swore I would never touch Vodka again and I have kept my word to myself. I drank so much Vodka one night in 1974 that it changed my personality. I was completely out of character, starting fights with my friends, and with anyone else that wandered by, and I just got so mean that night, it almost cost me my friendship with my life long pals. It was one of those nights that you want to forget.I embarrassed myself badly. The one star is nothing personal against Smirnoff it just happened to be the brand I drank that night. I dislike any Vodka.

It works just fine for mixed drinks, but as far as mid-range vodkas go, Svedka is better and cheaper, so there really is no reason to buy Smirnoff.

This is a run of the mill vodka. Its affordable and really doesn't taste bad for the price. If chilled it goes down super smooth. I really think the smoothness of vodka is what makes a decent to good vodka, and the smoothness of Smirnoff is decent. This is a great vodka for a person on a budget!

What can I say about Smirnoff? Well it is alright. I think it is weird that it branched off into making malternatives such as Smirnoff Ice and maybe part of my disdain for it arrives from that. It is an OK vodka, but nothing special. It is not as horrible as something like Jacquin's though, so I feel bad rating it lower than OK.

Started drinkin this stuff in high school, best I could aford. Got me through college and University. Still drink it today as it has grown on me quite well. But unless your already 2 sheets to the wind I wouldn't recommend drinking it straight as the taste is quite similar to rubbing alcohol.

When I was in high school some 30 years ago and didn't know what drinking was I thought this stuff was great. Now as professional drinker I know that throwing my guts up and the taste of dirt mixed with gasoline isn't good.

Not too long ago, I was having dinner with a friend and I decided to have a coctail and lo and behold the blueberry martini caught my attention. It was to die for... so I had another. (I wasn't driving)  The next day I went to the store, bought martini glasses, a shaker and then swung by the liquor store to purchase smirnoff's blueberry vodka. A few experiments later, I managed a passable blueberry martini but I have yet to reach the same combination that hit that pleasure spot. Does anyone out there in cyber space have a killer recipe for this delight?  help... New Years is barreling down on us and I have every intention of celebrating in style. I have to justify buying those glasses after all...I'm seriously in need of a great, not good, but 'great' recipe. Suggestions?

Smirnoff has been a category leader for way to long. It is also in the midst of major price increasing. High quality vodka is made from pure wheat, where as Smirnoff buys whatever grain (corn, barley, cow feed, etc..) they can buy for cheap at open market. As to the comments by sktboardkd, Smirnoff is not made in Russia, it is an American produced vodka. In addition Russia is not the home of vodka, that would be Poland.

Quite honestly, most of the comments on here are coming from people who have Absolutely no clue about being a vodka connoisseur or what vodka is supposed to taste like. I've tasted, sampled and critiqued vodka from around the globe. Smirnoff is without doubt still the original and best vodka you can buy despite the misleading and diminutive price. Too many people are bamboozled by tricky, svelte, marketing gimmicks and are consumed by what they think is the 'cool' thing to drink. It's made in Russia by the nation that invented it. Keep your chemical tasting French crap Grey Goose and the stomach lining stripper, Absolute from Sweden. Stolichnaya is the only one that comes close -- with a price tag. Stick with Smirnoff, you can't go wrong.

This stuff is truly teeny bop cr!p. Sickly fake sweetened/flavored and non Absolutely good. Thought I was getting a less expensive version of Absolute Citroen which is clean and can be enjoyed on rocks alone if desired. More like a marketing ride along. I guess it must be mixed and covered up to disguise the cheap imitation taste and vibe. Happy hangover!

It's not the kind of vodka you want to drink straight but for mixing it's just fine. I just had some last night in fact and it was mixed with sprite. If you have a good enough alcohol to mixer ratio it tastes fine. Downside, it gives you a nasty hangover. It's the type of drink that once you start you can't stop.haha.

I admit Smirnoff Vodka is a cheap Vodka. However sometimes I doubt myself that even the cheap Vodka shouldn't taste this bad. Either you want to drink straight or mix, this vodka is not the one you want to have. I try to mix it in the cranberry& lime, and I still can taste the spice and nasty smell of vodka. I will recommand that people not to buy Smirnoff vodka, even you have a little budget. Try to buy some other brand.

Let's get real here. Vodka is ethanol. People usually mix alchol with something else to be able to drink it. Plastic bottles don't produce poisons, it's about esthetics. If you are having a party and you are mixing drinks using a cheap looking plastic bottle, your guests are going to think you don't like them enough to buy something better. Really I don't know why (breakage?) any distiller would want to market their product in plastic. It smacks of penny pinching. I have to say I don't taste any odd flavors from being contained in plastic but it just seems so tacky. Smirnoff makes good quality booze. If you want the really good stuff buy their higher priced product. But for screwdrivers, bloody marys, etc. the plane jane $10 bottle works fine. If you are making dry martinis you might want the next level up or buy one of the designer bottles. Your friends will thank you for it. For myself, the mainstream companies like Smirnoff, Seagrams, and even Fleishmans (that damn plastic!) make pe... Read more

Ha. Everyone's best known college liquor. Everyone reading this list or review will have a Schmirnoff experience or two to tell. The reason this stuff is so popular is it is significantly better than your bottom shelf vodkas, but is only priced 5 to 10 dollars more. Thus college students drink it to avoid major hangovers, without paying too much. Taste: 2.75 Stars (Let's be honest, its not that good) Value: 4 Stars Overall: 3 Stars

A good cheap vodka that can be used either mixed drinks or in martinis. However, it is deceptive to the consumer as they don't always use their own vodka in their bottles. They cannot keep up with demand so sell other companies' cheap vodka. On bottle may not taste like the next because of this.

Hard to call a juggernaut like Smirnoff an underdog, but at just $10 per bottle it certainly shouldn't belong in the class of other $25/bottle vodkas. Surprisingly, however, it boasts of creamsicle light flavor (3/4) with excellent smoothness (3/4). Even more surprisingly, as their commercials will tell you, a NY Times blind tasting concurs. While I wouldn't rank it #1, slap a $25 price tag on it, give it a shimmery bottle, and it would be all the rage.

For mixed drinks, Smirnoff is definitely the way to go. Blends perfectly with orange/cranberry juice, and doesn't leave a gritty taste like with the dirt-cheap brands. However, if you're like me, and prefer your vodka straight, Smirnoff is more of a last resort to be consumed only when you don't have anything else on hand.

Great vodka, although this doesn't separate out Smirnoff Red, Blue or Black. Red is the usual in pubs and I'd chose it over most of the other paint stripper the average pub sells. Blue is stronger prob best mixed well, Black was really smooth, so smooth I drank far too much without realising.

I drink this stuff whenever I go out usually mix it with Red Bull if i'm out for the night - gives me enough stamina to last. A nice refreshing alternative is Vodka, Cranberry & Soda. Smirnoff tastes the best, not as harsh on the symthetic taste as some other brands. This is the leading brand in the UK. The pre-mixed alcopops are pretty damn good too.
