Nairobi is the capital of Kenya, located in Eastern Kenya in the East African Highlands. Nairobi is Kenya’s largest city with a population of over 3.5 million people, and is also Kenya’s main center for agricultural production, specializing in coffee, tea, and cattle. Although close to the equator, Nairobi’s high climate (5,500 ft) keeps temperatures milder than most African cities. Founded in 1899 as a railhead on the Mombasa-Uganda line, Nairobi eventually became the capital of the British East Africa Protectorate (1920-1963). Points of Interest in Nairobi include the Nairobi National Park, the National Museum of Kenya, and the Sorsbie art gallery. Nairobi is also home to the United Nations Environmental Program’s headquarters. (Add picture)

Nairobi has to be the New York of Eastern Africa. You cant find another city on that side of the continent with as many impressive buildings and people as this city.Receently there has been an effort to beautify the city by planting trees and flowers everywhere as well as improving security by lighting up the streets and parks. The government is planning to upgrade the city's highway system which has been neglected for a long time. You wouldn't want to miss out on the game park and pother tourist attractions in this country. Nairobi may well become the symbol of African renaissance in the economic boom that is currently sweeping across east africa and the continent as a whole.

The only good thing about Nairobi is that it is the gateway to some awesome game parks.

Nairobi has all that a big city has to offer, from the wealthiest surbubs you can ever find in Africa to the poorest slums. I lived in Nairobi for a while and I honestly don't think it's as bad as most people tend to view it. Quite modern if you ask me, with tons of friendly people. Kenya is a great country to visit.

It been a few years since I have been to Nairobbery. Interesting, but it has seen better days. Markets worth visiting, if you dare! Very interesting train station and museum.

Nairobi is the hub of East Africa. If you have never been to Africa you would never imagine an African city like this. You can get anything in the world you want here. However, poor city planning and corruption have taken their toll on the city. On one hand it is modern with big buildings, fancy homes, and rich citizens, yet at the same time it is dirt poor with sprawling slums and street children begging for money. There are lots of things to do around town both during the day and at night, but you do have to be careful not to get into bad situations. As a Peace Corps volunteer I have been all over the city and never had a bad incident. Safety concerns are not a reason to avoid Nairobi, but you should be careful, do your research, and be aware of your surroundings while in town.

Impressive ultra-modern skyscrapers in the downtown area. I was amazed during my first visit to Nairobi, I didn't expect that kind of development for an African city. The city is clean, very green and the weather is not too drastic for travellers arriving from the west. The Carnivore Restaurant is the best I've ever visited anywhere in the world, exteremly superb. The hotels are excellent, especially The Grand Regency on Uhuru Highway. I would definitely encourage anyone to visit Nairobi...you'll love it. Spectacular!

ugly city, tons of crime. the parks are so so-way too many tourists, you can easily get 30-40 vehicles for one sighting. for game parks head to zambia, zimbabwe, botswana or south africa

It used to be a 5-er. Crime, polution, etc. The coast line and the parks in Kenya are worth a visit though!

In one direction some of the most beautiful beaches in the world, in another one: National parks with the most exotic animals you can imagine! :o)
