Bucharest is an absolute hell-hole. It is still one of the worst cities on the face of the planet. There are not enough words to describe how filthy, polluted and simply ugly this city is. I wouldn't even call it a city, it is an overgrown village. And what makes this city absolutely unbearable for civilized people: it is not the monstrous gray uniform buildings, not the total lack of infrastructure, of green areas, of landmarks, but the people. The people of Bucharest are a nightmare. Total lack of manners, of decency, they are ignorant, they are thiefs, they are intolerant, they are loud and obnoxious. I had the displeasure of living in hat disgusting chaos of concrete for 3 years so believe me when I tell you this: if you consider yourself a civilized person spare yourself the disappointment and stay away from Bucharest. Trust me.

This city is actually pretty amaizing and has come a long way since 1989, not at all one of the worst cities in the world at one point as Richy said. It was once called the Little Paris because of its marvelous architecture. Bucharest is a modern day metropolis, complete with nice shops and boutiques, good restaurants, convenient public transportation, fabulous nigth life, luxury hotels. Just be street smart, like in any other big city.

Once one of the worst cities in the world, but now on its way to develop into a nicer place (better shops, restaurants etc). Most of the communist-era apartment blocks remain, however, as grey as always.
