Beware of renting a cheap apartment in Budapest, we just did and found ourselves on the outskirts of the city, paying a fortune in taxi fares travelling back and forth. We found ourselves in a concrete jungle. The apartment looked beautiful in the pictures, views across the Danube, it looked ideal. How wrong we were. Next time we will pay more to stay in the Centre.

Golden Prague is a tourists' paradize. It is not so cheap as it used to be, but still fairly affordable.

Wow I am suprised to see some people say that the locals were unfriendly. I suppose it depends on who you are or your timing. PRAHA is AMAZING and it will touch you. If you have Praguer friends it could make a difference. If you stick around Prague 2 and some Prague 3 district you will be happy. EVERYONE I met was super friendly and giving (green) and I saw great music acts and DJ's. I understand there are loads of tourists but like any great city you will find this. Just blow it off, and good luck in having a time like I did, I was truly touched by this amazing city with amazing people. Also, the world famous beers are famous for a reason. Also highly recommended is Cesky Krumlov, about a 3.5 hour bus or train ride. Fat...

An absolutely amazing place and I can't wait to go back. Fortunately we have a friend who lives over there so we don't have to worry about accommodation - although the apartment that we rented was very affordable, gorgeous and in a central location. If you are planning to go, I'd say go in winter as there are hardly any tourists around and you'll get to see Prague properly and it really does look amazing covered in snow. But do make sure that you have a warm coat, a hat and decent gloves otherwise you won't want to go outside! If you are planning to go to pubs, pick the smaller ones as they won't be the ones targeted at tourists, therefore the prices won't be bumped up and its just nicer. If you are planning to drink a lot then I do advise you have the local food as its very hearty, filling, yummy and cheap. They really do put a lot onto your plate as well. Places to see - well, there's obviously the castle which is beautiful. The Charles Bridge is amazing and is adorned with statues all the way along and you really do get a great view of the city. There's lots more, but I advise you go go over there and see for yourself.

Overrated. During tourist season it is hard to hear anything but English. The people working in the industry (which seems to be the entire Old part of town) hold this level of bitterness, rightfully so, towards the stagering, sun burnt arses who travel to this 'European destination'. It seems the transition into capitalism from communism hasn't been the easiest for the people who live here. Despite all this, it is an absolutely stunning city from every angle. Just go on the off season.

I have to agree with a lot of other of the comments on this page: Prague is beautiful - even enchantning - but during the summer it is completely overrun with tourists. That said, it is still definitely worth a visit - lots to see and do, and also a great base for visits to castle Karlstejn, Tabor and even Ceske Budejovice, home of the original Budweiser Budejovicky Budvar. Prague itself offers beautiful 19th century architecture, a great cultural scene (music, art, theatre, etc.) and a lot of nice restaurants and bars. There is a reason why I've visited the city five times (No, I am not a Czech, nor do I live in the Czech Republic ;-).

I've been quite a few times to this city. It truly is an enchanting city. For first time visitors, the city's beauty will seem almost unreal. The downside to the city are its inhabitants, which are unfriendly at best and terribly rude and arrogant at worst. It's also no longer a cheap tourist destination. Prices have either escalated terribly, or else tourists are being ripped off. Considering Czech wages, its a wonder how Czechs still manage to make ends meet. Ah yes, and the local food .... it sucks big time. You'll be better off eating pizza or chinese than local cuisine. Otherwise, it's a worthwhile city to visit at least once.

I'm not sure why so many people seem to be enchanted with Prague. It's too crowded and touristy, full of graffiti, and too many Czechs I ran across are either arrogant or rude (usually in restaurants). Both the Hungarians and Poles know how to be much more gracious to foreigners.

The old town is beautiful, and Czech beer is the best in the world. Unfortunately, Prague can get over-run with American, British, Italian and German tourists, so you have to go out of your way to find the local hang-outs.

Probably the most stunning city in Central Europe. (If you call it "eastern europe" they will correct you.) Great food, dazzling architecture, low prices. Down side: too damned many tourists. Whole battalions of them jam the inner city 6 months out of the year. I still love the place.

Prague is great, but I can't agree that it is a hidden jewel anymore. It has been discovered by American backpackers and German tourists in a big way. It feels more like a large museum than an actual living city. But it is one beautiful museum if I do say so myself. Surely worth a visit. But if you want to visit a true, living city in that part of the world, go to Budapest.

I ended up staying longer in Prague than I originally intended, just because there was so much to do there! As an added bonus (and this is probably changing), food and lodging in Prague is really cheap. It's a beautiful city with many sides to its personality.

Unbelieveably beautiful! It's just one of those places where you find yourself staring at everything. The detail on the buildings is just incredible. You walk around thinking how amazing it must have been to grown up around such architecture. Of course then you realize that for most of the last 60 years they've been as poor as dirt and that it probably wouldn't be worth the trade off. I would recommend Prague to anyone, it is truly astounding.

Perhaps the prettiest city I've ever seen, but there seems to be little going on other than tourism -- and yet it seemed impossible to find a competent tour guide (my two attempts were busts). All the food was good and super cheap...

Prague is the most beautiful and magical place I have ever visited. The architecture was awe inspiring. Despite my having the flu and it raining the whole time I was there, I had a wonderful time!

My favorite city in Europe. The buildings are completely untouched by the devastation of WW2, so the historical sections of the city aren't much different now that they were a very long time ago. Beautiful women with amazing accents seem to be everywhere. Beer is 25 cents. Viva the Velvet Revolution!

A beautiful city, but my back-pack was stolen out of a locked locker. This definitely clouded my impression of the city.

I think it is a hidden jewel in Eastern Europe. I was so amazed at the beauty of the city and the wonderful crafts to find.
