This is a tough one because the accomplishments of recent Red Sox teams have been truly great. Unfortunately, that success has attracted a "Nation" of bandwagon fans who are arrogant and completely ignorant of the team's history as a franchise that could never get the job done. I believe that true Red Sox fans should be overjoyed with their team's success, but they shouldn't be arrogant or cocky because they've lived through at least some of those 89 years of futility.

No use in writing out a long rating, they've pretty much been speaking for themselves lately. Growing up in Northern Massachusetts naturally I am a Red Sox fan, and as an athlete i've been one all my life. I hope one day to see the Red Sox as the most notable franschise in Baseball History.

I will always be a fan - but I'm hoping for a couple of losing seasons in the future so the Pink Hat fans can get bored and then I can actually get a seat at Fenway again! We are victims of our own success.

Ah, opening day in Boston! Temperatures in the low to middle -40's, a slight breeze of 250mph blowing out to left field (that whistling you hear is the air passing through Manny's head), $2300.00 upper bleacher seat tickets, Robert Goulet?! (Yikes!), $300.00 cleaning bill from spilled beer, hot dogs left over from the Hoover administration, Remdope, Wally the Green Monster, and a stadium filled with fans who don't follow baseball. God Damn, I love this city!!!

I say... that was a dramatic championship series in 2004. A brutal slugfest against the ever-present essence of evil (the New York Yankees). The final battle against the Cardinals at Fenway and Busch stadiums was kind of a walk in the park for the Sox, though. Yet, anyway you look at it, the Boston Red Sox successfully dominated every team in the gloriuos year of 2004. They had been panting for another victory since 1918! Now... if only the poor old Cubbies can do the same thing. Maybe.

The Sox are my second-favorite team, so I was about to give them 4 stars...but then I thought about how they knocked the wretched, too-conceited-for-their-own-good, snotty-nosed, boring, twelve-year-old-boy-haircut-having Yankees on their sorry ASSES, and I had to give them a perfect five!!!

As a Bostonian and a lifelong Sox fan, I can say that Avalonman is dead wrong about the sox fans being fairweather fans. 86 years of heartbreaking loss after heartbreaking loss and still 87 (and counting) sellout seasons. Speaking of fairweather fans, how about those white sox fans taking off their empty seat disguises for the world series?

I am looking forward to seeing what Jonathan Pappelbon can do as a starter. It's been along time since I have seen anyone much less someone his age pitch with the type of confidence he does. Nothing rattles him and his stuff is electric. The Rocket might be taking a back seat in Red Sox history.

Grew up rooting for them. The park is really nice, though people in 1912 must have all been the size of hobbits: I'm not a particularly large fellow, yet I get cramped in the seats, though it's one of the best places to catch a game. It's getting too expensive, and the real fans are getting nudged out by yuppies and cellphone toting brats who don't know what the hell is going on. At this writing, what they'll look like next year remains very unclear, and I have to admit that it's different since their Series win: they're not in a league financially with the Yankees ( no one truly is) yet unfortunately they're inching towards them and away from the Cubs, Cardinals, and other clubs of their ilk: as far as having diehard fans who don't need nothing less than a Series championship to feel good about being a fan. Are accruing a fair amount of fairweather bandwagon fans like the Yankees, Lakers, etc. This is distressing.

Not the team they were last year. Pitching isn't a disaster, but its not good and in the playoffs might offset the incredible offence. Looks to me like another Sox/Yankees showdown is looming. If you're any kind of fan at all, you have to love that.

I just dont like the Red sox, but i do respect them. Honestly, there are not many pitches that Ortiz misses in rbi opportunties, and if he does manny is right behind me. They have a potent line up. Thier pitching is not as great as it was last year, but wit schilling, wells, and clement in a 5 game and 7 game series....they are going to be tough to beat. But in the playoffs, the best team doesnt always win. Its the team that is the hottest and the yanks are hot. If they stay hot, its over and no team is gonna beat them.

As much as it pains me to say it, they have a reasonable shot to repeat. UPDATE: Was 2004 the year they won it? Hmmmmm... wasn't that the same year that Jason Schmidt threw a one hitter against them? I'll always remember that game. Held the mighty Sox to just one hit. Haha!

i'll admit i was a little turned off by pedro throwing zimmer around like a rag-doll, then actin' like a bad ass for beatin' up the ederly. but nevertheless, any team that can embarrass the yankees from three games back has earned my respect eternally. call me a bandwagon fan, tell me you'll see me in 2091, say whatever you want. but no matter what happens this season, my red sox cap will still be worn to pay homage to the yankee spankers. (on the days my faithful braves cap is not worn). i'll die a braves fan, but there will always be room in my heart for boston, even if it's another 86 years until i can bask in the delight of seeing the yankees get waxed by a bunch of shaggy-haired, grizzly faced boston boys.

The only reason for the high ratings is because of people jumping on the Red Sox bandwagon because they won the World Series. It made me sick to see on TV that a whole bunch of losers from Massachusetts went all the way to Minnesota to root their losers. Luckily my Twins beat them 12-0 and 4-3 at our house to teach those fairweather Sux fans a lesson! Boston sucks as a city as much as the Red Sox do as a team, which is to say alot. Red Sox are way overated, they won't make it past the 1st round this year. 86 more years assholes!

The Boston Red Sox has the second highest payroll in MLB and Boston accuses the Yankees of buying championships? At least the Yankees have gotten it done over and over again but the Red Sox blame not winning a championship for 86 years, despite having all the money and all the amazing talent, on a so-called curse. That is sad. The Boston Red Sox had no excuses for not getting the job done.

Could they begin to act like the World Champions, at long last. They won. The Yankees are the upstarts, along with the Orioles, Chisox, A's, Angels, etc. Stop whining about umpires' calls, keep your fans from interfering with the game and grow the hell up. Act like you've won a World Series in the last 85 years, let the Cubs grovel with the curse. Defend your title like champions, maybe you'll get used to it.

I like any team that has a great history. From Teddy Ballgame to Yaz to Boggs to the World Series Champions, there is a rich history here. Heck, the left field wall in their park has more charecter than some teams have on their roster. Plus, we no longer have to hear about the Curse of the Bambino after last October.

Look, let's be reasonable, okay? The Boston Red Sox FINALLY won the World Series in 2004 (YES, they DID!)). Their previous World Series Championship? 1918. So, like Halley's comet returns every 76 years, the Red Sox are due to win again in the year 2090. I can live (and die) with that!

i'm a masochist, i love the red sox. i wrote that before we were world champions. right now i'm still in a fog, but it will sink in more tomorrow. i have only been following the redsox since 1975 and they have broken my heart numerous times. tonight they delivered what ted williams, bobby doerr, jimmy foxx, yaz, luis tiant, jim rice, fred lynn, dewey evans, nomar, and that turncoat vulture roger clemens were unable to deliver. in no way do i compare my suffering to those in new england who live and breathe red sox baseball, but i feel as if a tremondous weight has been lifted from my shoulders. i am so proud.

Congratulations to the Boston Red Sox and Curt Schilling in particular, for an inspiring performance and an historic comeback, winning the '04 pennant. I hope Calvin Schiraldi and the rest of the 1986 team saw this last night. I've wanted it to happen for them for the last 18 years. And it's especially gratifying that they did it in New York City.

There aren't too many franchises that I tune in for...just to see how they are going to lose. In 2004, it was simply inept management that's unfolded for all their fans to witness. Last year, this team traded a Yankee-killing, .300 hitting 1B/3B in Shea Hillenbrand for nothing (and no visible reason). This year, they show how future their brain-trust actually is -- by hiring Francona because he's their new pitcher's friend (Schilling), abuse/alienate their franchise player (in Nomar) long before ever getting his replacement (and butchering the A-Rod deal). Like the NY Mets, they are held down by poor off-field decisions. Their owner and management team is where the games are lost (this year). Oh yeah, and one more thing: 1918.

I think I dislike this team as much as the Yankees. For all the talk from Red Sox ownership and fans about how unfair Steinbrenner is for buying expensive players, well, with all due respect, cry me a river. The Red Sox are 2nd in payroll, nearly $30 million ahead of the 3rd place Angels. So please, spare me the Yankees are evil crap. Having said that, the Red Sox always seem to be in the playoff hunt every year, and their front office is dedicated to putting a winning team on the field. This year needs to be their year though, with Pedro and Nomar eligible for free agency after this season.

I'm originally from CT, so I was born and raised a Yankees fan. Everybody knows that Massachusetts is the most inebriated state in the nation, how else can one like Massachusetts teams? The fact that the Red Sux haven't won since 1918 and hence have an 86 year tradtion of losing, yet the dumb Masswipes still root for them prove how bombed they really are. How can you be a fan of a team that has the biggest Prima Donna's in the game, Pedro and Manny? Pedro should have been arrested for throwing an old out of shape man like Don Zimmer to the ground, absolutely no excuse, as well intentionally throwing at Karim Garcia's head. The fact that A-Rod didn't go there and signed with the Yankees is absolute proof that NOBODY want to go to the Red Sux. The Red Sux are a classless group of thugs. Who cares if the Red Sux beat the Yankees in the season series so far, the last laugh will be at the end of the season when the Red Sux continue their losing tradition! The Yankees will be celebrating, and the Red Sux will be crying, just like their fans.
