Bern is the capital of Switzerland. With a population of 127,000 residents, Bern is the 4th largest city in the country. Located in the west-center of Switzerland, on a landscape created from ice age glaciers, Bern was founded in 1191 and became a Swiss capital in 1848. A form of German, known as Bernese German, is spoken in Bern. Bern is also the site where Albert Einstein began work on his theory of relativity. Bern is home to many theaters and architecture of the medieval era.
