I've just returned from Brussels in Belgium and let me tell you they love two things, chocolate and beer. The assortment of beers was incredible ranging from apple and cherry to dark and white. The buildings in Brussels are amazing particularly the Central Market Square - Grand Place, beautiful when it's lit up at night. I found the people extremely polite, food portions were tasty and generous, a variety of good quality souvenir shops cheap and the many street cafe's littered around the city made it more appealing. I would definitely go again.

certainly got a lot of history to the place, and the grand plaz is superb, but it lack the style you get with many historic cities

It may not get as much attention as Paris or Amsterdam, but Brussels is definitely worth a day or two, especially if you're traveling by train. The city may be a little more dominated by offices and sterile commercial districts, but it still has its old, traditionally European side. Don't leave town without trying Belgian mussels, frites, waffles, chocolate, and beer - all in one meal if you're daring.

Brussels is not as dynamic as other capitals such as London or Rome, but it does have quite a bit to offer. Comments are based on several visits in the 1970's to late 1990's.The Grand Place is magnificent, especially when there is a flower show or a beer festival. I'm not a beer drinker, but could learn to become one if I stayed long enough in Brussels or Belgium. About the only other tourist attraction I can think of is the Mannekin Pis (close to the Grand Place). Food is very good; the Belgian waffles with chocolate sauce are sinfully good as dessert or a snack. Hotels I've stayed at have all been good. People are friendly enough, and service is good. Brussels, as for Belgium as a whole, can have some really dreary weather, however.

Pretty, especially in residential areas and the Grand Place. But I found it to be quite bureaucratic and boring for the most part.

Brussels is possibly the most underrated European Capital. Its a beautiful, lively city with many good restaurants and nice people. Go and see the Grand Place, the baroque architecture is some of the best in Europe.

Brussels was a positive surprise - not at all as boring as I thought it would be. The Grand Place is absolutely magnificent!
