Lyons is located in East-central France at the merge points of the Rhone and Saone Rivers. Lyons is a major French tourist destination known worldwide for its Silk and Rayon manufacturing. Lyons is also an important center for France’s medical and chemical industries. The city was founded in 43 BC as a Roman colony, and was incorporated into France in 1307. During WWII, Lyons was considered the capital of the French resistance movement. The Cathedral of St. John is a major point of interest in Lyons, as are the preserved sections of the old town. The estimated population of Lyons is 422,000.
