Oslo is the capital city of Norway, and has an estimated population of 521, 886. Oslo is known for the many green hills and mountains that surround it, as well as the 40 islands that make up much of the area in and around the city. In 1624 a fire destroyed Oslo and it was rebuilt with a new name, Christiania. Oslo remained Christiania until 1925. Popular attractions include Akershus Castle and Fortress, Norsk Folkemuseum, The Royal Palace, and the Viking Ship Museum. Oslo was home to the artist Edvard Munch, and writers Henrik Ibsen and Knut Hamsun. (Add picture)

There are a few sights (Akershus Castle, the royal castle and the main shopping street), but apart from that there's really nothing to do in this city. And it's REALLY expensive - more so than even London and Copenhagen!

I found Oslo to be lacking in personality. Not a very exciting capital to be honest. No really nice architecture. It is a good place to go if you're into art museums. Like all Scandinavian cities, it is very clean and well organized. It is at the end of a fjord, so the natural surroundings are nice. It is a very expensive city though and really it isn't worth your buck. There are nicer cities in Europe.

What a great city! If you're on a quest to see landmarks and historical sites and museums, then Oslo shouldn't be first on your list... but if you want to experience a different kind of European city with an interesting culture, meet genuinely friendly people, and just be generally happy with your surroundings, then Oslo is a great place to go. It's also the hub for exploring the rest of Norway, which is hands down one of the most beautiful countries I've ever been to. Takk, Norge!

The only positive thing you can say about Oslo is that it's undoubtly Norway's largest & most important city, hehe...
