 | Sundiszno (32) 03/12/2004 | Salzburg is a great little city to spend a day or two in. Once you've soaked in the architectural attractions, it's basically relax, enjoy the scenery, and eat too much good food. Still retains a medieval charm, and not thronged with tourists (at least, not when I went).

 | MedgarEvers (15) 09/06/2002 | My favorite European city, and probably my favorite city. It's modern but it's maintained a beautiful atmosphere with the narrow cobblestone streets and a number of street performers. I'm big into Mozart so it was neat to see his birth-house and summer house though I sadly didn't get to tour them. And for all you "Sound of Music" fans, you've got the concert hall, convent, gorgeous Mirabell Gardens, "I Am Sixteen..." pavillion, (thought the movie was actually filmed only in the latter two). Salzburg is wonderful.

 | aflx (0) 06/18/2002 | Do you ever get that feeling that a town is crafted entirely to cultivate an image? Salzburg gave me that sensation. It's beautiful, yes, but I felt like it was all fake, or produced for the benefit of tourists like myself. I did stay at a great little hostel outside of town called "Germana Kappeller" (that's the owner's name). It's got a great view of the surrounding hills and forests and she makes excellent food.

 | john davies (2) 02/10/2002 | Certainly one of the most beautiful cities i've visited,in a lovely setting, with an attractive stretch of river, surrounded by glorious countryside, filled with elegant and ornate buildings, fine quality shops and cafes,horse-drawn carriages, and beneath an impressive castle. In a week of miserable weather, even worse(torrential downpours) at Salzburg itself on the day we visited,it was still the highlight of our holiday.Handily placed for trips to Italy and Germany,i'd say it's a pretty essential destination, whether you're a fan of Mozart and The Sound of Music,or not.

 | PoorOldEdgarDerby (4) 08/31/2000 | Salzburg is a terribly beautiful city/town surrounded by mountains with tons of stuff to do and see. Mozart's birthplace, the Archduke of Salzburg's Estate, the Salzburg castle, nearby is Hitler's Eagles Nest mountain retreat, and Salt Mines where you get dressed up in miner's suits and ride the rails down into the mountain side ( a great trip). Everything, down to the shop signs in Salzburg are ornate, even the Mcdonald's has a cast iron sign instead of the usual big plastic M.

 | durk9253om (0) 08/02/2000 | If you enjoyed The Sound of Music, Salzburg will have so much to show you. What's nice about Salzburg is that it is near Hitler's Eagles Nest, Herrenchiemsee Castle and Munich. You can do a lot of things in a short amount of time in and around Salzburg. It's a little like walking into the past. The historic district is very quaint.

 | ErictheFederalist (3) 12/13/1999 | The only thing this city can be proud of is that it where here Mozart was born - that's not good enough for modern, urban people! :o(

 | Wiggum (18) 11/16/1999 | Salzburg is beautiful, and it's worth a stop even if you're not into Mozart. I recommend walking up to the castle that overlooks the town - the views are great, and it's hard to keep yourself from imagining what it must have been like to live in that thing hundreds of years ago.
